I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I have been watching this crap for about 3 months and it is starting to make sense too me with the whole muscle confusion. I have been doing strong lifts now for about 3 months and am seeing great results. Is adding 5 pounds a workout confusing the muscles? And does anyone out there ever take a week off of the program to do something like body weight circuts or intense tabata, crossfit? Sorry if this has been discussed before.

The body is an amazing organism. Put under appropriate stress, it will respond. That's what you're doing. You're not confusing your muscles/body/mind, you're stressing it and your body will adapt (i.e. put on more muscle, learn how to do the exercises better, etc).

I think all of us take a bit of time off here and there, maybe try something different, but it can be hard doing a wholesale shift into something like crossfit for just a week.

Personally, I've found it beneficial to give the body a week off every few months. Usually this corresponds with a business trip, other times I just do light stuff or work on any issues (i.e. sore shoulder). Either way, it's useful to give the body time to heal and provide a mental break.

I personally do not believe in that whole muscle confusion mumbo jumbo.

Keep in mind that the guy who makes p90x also came up with 10 minute trainer, and some other short things. My roommate has been doing p90 for the past year now and I would say that there are some great results from it, but it depends on what your goals are.

If you want to get big and strong p90 wont really help you out there too much. The places where he has seen improvement there is in his lats i would say due to the number of pull ups and chin ups you do.

I'm not saying p90 is a walk in the park, I know for a fact that it would kick the crap out of me. I think it would be a great tool for a cutting phase though. But I mean do any type of cardio/exercise where you get your heart rate up for 90 min and it will be pretty effective as well.

Bottom line I think is that no matter how many ways you try and confuse your muscles by doing different push ups or squats or hitting muscles from different angles, when you are predominantly just doing it with your own body weight you wont get bigger.

Need to put more stress on the body and that is more weight on the bar.

Just my two cents.

I once got told some unwanted advice by a 'more experienced gym user'

he told me my workout, doing the same compounds lifts and adding weight was stupid. He said it wouldnt work and that my muscles would get too used to it. This man does a different body part each day and comes up with a series of varying exercises claiming that he needs to 'surprise' muscles to make them respond.

Needless to say, this fella doesnt look particulary fit, healthy or strong and has probably been doing this for a decade.

Consistency is vital for training, if you are doing the same bunch of stuff every week like SL. You can clearly see your progress. Your goals are not obscure, you add weight = you get stronger. This gives you incredible motivation which increases consistency and progress. Its a magic circle of awesomeness.

Bunch o' money. Bunch o' disks. Bunch o' different stuff to do.

If the models even actually used the program to acheive their development results, it looks like they put some muscle on and then trimmed down to next to no body fat. Little wasp waists. They look hungry.

Reg Park coulda eaten p90x dude with some eggs and wheat toast and then hit the gym for a real workout.

Confuse the muscles sounds like a load of nonsense.

p90x sounds like viral marketing meets pyramid scheme meets exercise

I guess it works, but so does Stronglifts. Shit, i'll pimp the shit outta this site for free. No need to have commercials. I always bring it up around Reddit.

Even if you bought into muscle confusion crap, why not spend only $25 on Ross Enamaits "Infinite Intesity" and get a hell of a lot more useful real world training info. WHo the hell wants to watch DVD's while they train!?

Check my sig for Staleys view.
