I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Your workouts must take ages with all those sets in there. Ow. It looks tiring - never mind actually trying to do it! I'm sure you'll get some good results sticking to it...

It only takes an hour and 15 minutes. I try not to rest too long in between sets. Obviously the squats take the longest.

But had you stopped by the coffee shop you would have known that. :P

Great work, how are you finding the new programming? I'm impressed by those squat sets, that is crazy volume. Great work!

I browsed the webiste a bit. It looks like it'd be up my alley. I'll bookmark it. Thanks!

I really do like the new program. And speaking of volume I want to go back and address this:

Didn't you think stressing the body more with more weight would be more beneficial to the fat loss?

I've been thinking about this so I cranked the numbers. I am stressing my body more with this program.

My last squat session was a total volume of 4600 lbs. If I squat 1.5 BW that would be 210 lbs for 3x5. Total volume would be 3150 lbs. I'm not anywhere close to being able to squat 1.5 BW. So in terms of the workload this program has the edge which I personally think is better for fat loss.

That's a better explanation than I simply wanted a change. :D

Hey Pg, if you like the Byers site, and you have an interest in fat loss, maybe consider throwing in more metabolic conditioning style workouts (aka "metcons")? Not trying to tell you what to do, but in my experience, if I am doing a lot of metcons, weight drops off pretty easily. Byers talks about a ton of those workouts, given she's pretty much a crossfit mini-celeb. There are also an endless parade of rather inspiring stories from people who try this and get what they want out of it. Here's one latest example:

http://www.board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=47931

Anyway, dunno if that is of interest, but whatever you do, good luck, and it's pretty clear from your log already you'll get your goals in the end.

Unil now I'd never heard of her. I'll do some reading when I have more time. But if work stays this slow I now have something to occupy myself.

I was thinking about taking up boxing of some sort. There's a trainer at the gym who does Ultimate Fighting. I was thinking about picking his brain. See if it's something I'd like to do. Having a punching bag in the house might be theraputic.

Anyway, dunno if that is of interest, but whatever you do, good luck, and it's pretty clear from your log already you'll get your goals in the end.

Thanks for vote of confidence. :D

Bag work would be a really good idea, it's the most fun you can have doing cardio (on your own that is) and it works better than everything else. In my boxing days I was quite the slim Jim.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+

Bench 450+
these numbers will go up (except the bench....bloody shoulder joint)

Unless you're really drunk, I'd disagree. Sorry, but I just couldn't help it.

In all seriousness, I'd would agree with you. I've done some bag work in the past and it's fun and you can really sweat like a pig (or gorilla in my case).

I'm going to check for prices and talk to the trainer as soon as I see him. I think it's something I would enjoy.

A heavy bag will cost you anywere from $100 for a cheaper standing upright one, to $500 for an unneccessarily nice leather hanging one lol. Don't forget to buy decent bag gloves, and handwraps. I personally like the mexican style handwraps becuase they are a bit more comfortable. If you do start training with a bag once you get bored with punching you can kick and maybe even knee the bag too =) If you haven't hit a bag much before after the first couple sessions your upper back muscles will be tired. Hope you have fun with it though PG.

P.S. Good luck training to fight a gorilla.
