I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Don't forget to buy decent bag gloves, and handwraps. I personally like the mexican style handwraps becuase they are a bit more comfortable. If you do start training with a bag once you get bored with punching you can kick and maybe even knee the bag too =) If you haven't hit a bag much before after the first couple sessions your upper back muscles will be tired. Hope you have fun with it though PG.

I was looking at Craigslist. There were quite a few reasonably priced. That's why I want to talk to the trainer that does Ultimate Fighting. I'm hoping he can give me a good idea as to what I'm in for.

P.S. Good luck training to fight a gorilla.

Glad you are thinking boxing PG...I LOVE it! Apparantly, I have a lot of suppressed anger that surfaces during a boxing session!!

Wish I had the $$ to do it regularly...maybe in the fall. It's $25 a class w/only 3 other people at the YMCA but I feel guilty spending the $$ considering the tough economy. Hope you get to do it.

I have an aggressive streak in me. Boxing may be the answer. I'm going to do some digging around first. If I think I'll like then I'm going to figure out how to set it up at the house.

If you can get the hubby involved, a cheap and fun option is a set of hand mitts. Make sure you wrap up first and get a decent pair of gloves (light, but cushioned). I actually prefer this to the heavy bag, since it lets you interact and move about. I have rarely fought a guy that just stood in the corner of the room and let me hit him. :P Not to say that the bag isn't useful, it definitely is, but you may be better served by the mitts.

If you go this route, make sure hubby knows how to hold the mitts for you (he needs to provide resistance or your hits will not be very effective) and have him call out your next hit. Say a '1' is a jab, '2' is a cross, '3' is a left hook, '4' is a lead uppercut, and '5' is a rear uppercut. The benefit is that you get a fun workout and spend time with the hubs (you can also let one slip and "accidentally" hit him when he pisses you off ).

After a rudimentary search I came up with this site. It should help you learn some basics without having to dole out cash for a coach or class.

As always, good luck.

Hubby would never trust me. And rightfully so.

I think I'm going to do some more digging around. I don't want to invest money into something I may or may not like.

Tonight's workout:

15 minutes cardio (yes you read that right . . . cardio)

DB Flys 12.5 lbs - 4x12
Close grip BP 40 lbs - 4x12
Reverse dips (feet on bench) - 4x9,12,11,12
Rope Cable Ext 35 lbs - 1x12
30 lbs - 1x12
30 lbs - 2x10

The bear complex with the oly bar 3x5.

I've been pretty wound up today so I had a lot of energy to use up. I finished the workout and had some extra time. So I tried the bear complex. I really liked it.

I'm looking forward to tomorrows workout. Back!! My favorite body part to exercise.

Hmm.... I've seen the Bear before, it looks interesting. I may give it whirl in the future. Do the reverse dips give your shoulder any trouble?

Suprisingly no. And the push press didn't bother it either when I was doing the complex.

I don't know. It's a mystery to me.

I liked the bear. Probably won't feel it too much given that I only used the bar. Maybe complexes will be my thing. I'm going to play around with this one some more.

Reverse dips can be very cool. If you can get some one to help out, you can have them stack plates on your lap to add weight.
