I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

It's to get the heart rate up into the fat burning zone and keep it there throughout the weight training part of the W/O. Also if you put cardio at the end of a W/O people who hate cardio will tend to miss it out.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315 (on a good day)
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up

Jim is right. If cardio is at the end of my workout I'll find a way to avoid it.

Sorry I've never tried making yogurt. I don't spend much time in the kitchen anymore.

We don't have Trader Joe's. I wish we did though. I know our local grocery store sells it so I will try that.

Hi PG,

I've been meaning to stop in and and say hello, but this stuff is new to me so it's been a bit time consuming and overwhelming. Excuses, excuses! Anyway, I enjoy following your log and I thought the Coffee Shop was a clever idea.

How are you liking The Bear? I've just started it this week. I'm cardio challenged so I think it's going to be double tough, cardio & weight wise. How are you tracking your progress with it, timing, weight?

I asked Mouse if we (the ladies) could start some other competitions amongst ourselves, somewhat similar to what the guys have going on. He said sure, come up with some ideas. I thought it might help to keep us motivated and moving on with some of our particular lifts in addition to the overall strongest competition. What are your thoughts? Would you be interested in jumping in the fray if we started something else? Any ideas of stuff we could do?

I'll send this same post to everyone already in the strongest competition but if you know of any other ladies that might be interested please ask them if they want to get in the mix too. The more the merrier!

I'm going to be away hiking for the next couple of weeks (yipee!) so if you're interested and you have some ideas please post them on my log over the next couple of weeks and then I'll put them together and send them on to Mouse for his thoughts when I get back.

For any of you guys who might come across this post, your ideas for us are welcome too.

Thanks

You probably shouldn't have posted that. It's ripe for comments. Especially here. Must . . . resist . . . .

I'll give it some thought. The problem for me is I want fat loss. So any competition for me will have to be around that or I will have to join later. Once I get my bf% down I plan on meeting my other strength goals.

But I'm open to any and all suggestions.

I like the bear. Currently I'm trying to increase the number of sets I do. I haven't increased the weight because I do it at the end of my workout and I'm too tired. Once I can do 5x5 I'll either increase reps or weight. Not sure yet.

You should stop by the shop sometime. Especially if you have a stupid love story. DJJ wants to here them.

I finally caught up on all my emails and still have a few minutes to post yesterdays workout before the kids get up.

Yesterday's Workout:

20 Minutes Cardio

SLDL - 100 lbs 3x5
Leg Press - 25 lb plate on each side 5x20
Calf Raises - 75 lbs 4x20
Walking Lunges - 10 lb plate in each hand 4x10

I'm still not feeling good but managed another good workout. I used the eliptical rather than the treadmill. It raised my heart rate more effectively than the treamill. I'll continue to use the eliptical.

I tested my max on SLDL. I made it to 135 lbs. I'm sure I could have done 140 maybe 145 but I had to stop due to grip. I was sweaty and didn't have my chalk with me. I'll remember this for next time.

I'm very sore this morning. My back, hams and glutes. I have an afternoon of walking ahead of me. Battle Creek hosts a yearly hot air balloon championship every 4th of July. I'm meeting my parents and my brother and his family at the air show. The thunderbirds will be flying today. My son will be thrilled. He is obsessed with being a soldier.

I was supposed to do one more workout this week but I've decided to skip it. I'm not eating or sleeping much and I have a head cold (not too severe but enough to make me miserable). So I'm going to relax as much as I can before going back to work on Monday.

Hot air balloon championship sounds exciting! Hope you will feel better after a quality time with your family. Always a good thing.

And how are your legs feeling?

But I really want to know how you do on the deadlift with chalk and feeling better again. I read in the previous log you managed to deadlift 150 1x3, so it's difficult to determine wether your making progress. However, I do think it's a good sign you can lift close to that number again but with much more volume. :)

The legs?? It's hard to sit they hurt so bad. It's all in my hams and glutes.

The most I deadlifted was 165 lbs for 1 rep but I think my back rounded so I left my max at 160. I was testing my max on stiff legged deadlifts (SLDL). I was happy with 135.

Next week is back to sets of 10. I need to get some rest before Monday.
