I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I don't have a problem with getting feedback and I know not everyone is going to agree with what I'm doing. If I had a problem with people disagreeing with me I wouldn't be posting. But let me do the program for a few cycles then we can evaluate. I've done one workout. It's much too soon to start changing anything.

Imagine the outcry if I'd done one SL workout and decided to start changing things.

Never poke a short stick into a hornets nest......
Well here's another one, I don't like Rippetoe's hair! There I said it.

Actually the exercises aren't fixed apart from the squats in week one. If you can reach the goal of 5 sets 10 with 80% max three times a week, everything else will fall into place. You can replace behind the neck press with seated military it won't matter.
Week two looks strange I know, but it's actually supposed to be a slight rest, I knew if I just said do cardio it'd be way too dull for someone who loves weights. The idea is get the heart rate up with the cardio for 15 minutes and keep it there while doing some weights. Those week two exercises are not supposed to be as taxing as in week one.
Lets remember people there are different goals to be met now.

Now you all want to chase me back to the lab with pitchforks, I know.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315 (on a good day)
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up

So essentially it's whole body workouts with medium intensity on week one and light pumping split routine on week 2. I guess the point it to put on a little muscle in week 1 which you'll burn carlories by putting on the muscle. And in week 2 burn more calories by doing a lot of work / keeping heart rate up. Might be interesting, I'd think it would be even more effective if it were performed in a circuit although that might be overkill depeding on your level of fitness. Maybe something to think about after a month or so though.

I was thinking about super setting in week 2 once I become more acclimated to the program. Given the time that I go to the gym doing a circuit would be near impossible. Too many people. Super setting would be more feasible.

Fat loss is a bitch. But once again (just like the OHP) I'm going to be the bigger bitch.

Unless I'm mistaken about the point of this workout (fat loss) I'd have thought you wanted to become the smaller bitch? ;)

I think you've got the right attitude here about sticking to it for a month before changing anything (other than the BTN Press if necessary). How can you measure the results of an experiment if you change the parameters in the middle? We're all behind you PG.

Thanks LTL.

I'm "listening" to all the feedback and after at least a month I can come back to it and see what has merit and what doesn't. I'm not dismissing anyone out of hand. I just need time to do the routine for awhile before making any judgements regarding it's effectiveness.

I will be doing seated military press rather than behind the neck press.

Wow goddess, that looks like a fun and challenging workout. It will be interesting to read your feedback on it.
If you find some magic way to make cardio fun, please let me know...I could use it!

I despise cardio. I avoid it if at all possible. One of the reasons I'm glad Jim put the cardio before weights in week 2. If it were the other way around I'd end up skipping it. I also like the 4x12 with little rest in between sets. I'm hoping it will cut down my need for more cardio. But I'll measure bf% every month and decide later if more cardio is needed.

I'm better off sticking with circuits or maybe trying complexes. I don't mind taking a walk with the kids or something with a purpose. But to just do cardio . . . .Blah!!

What type of cardio do you plan on doing? I personally despise most forms of cardio but have found boxing/kickboxing and jumping rope to be fun and can be as challenging as you want to make it. 15 minutes jumping rope is going to make you get that heart rate up and work your abs and calves hard. Boxing with a heavy bag or even just shadow boxing since you may not have a bag is fun and stress relieving.
