I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hi PG,

I'm sorry I'm so late in catching up on your log and reading about your brother. That's great news on no spreading to the lymph nodes. I hope everything goes well for him and your family.

It's also good to read that you've decided what direction you want to head with your training. January will be here before you know it. I look forward to following your progress on your new journey with 5/3/1 and the AD. I keep a pretty clean diet but I've been unable to make any real measurement/BF changes so if you don't mind sharing...what made you decide on going with the AD and what are your goals?

Sounds like you'll enjoy the bag work. I have a friend that spends 20 minutes with the heavy bag at the end of every workout. He uses it as his cardio time and has often mentioned he thought I would like it too. Any idea how often you are going to incorporate the bag work into your training?

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

No I don't need wrist support. I used to have a pair of lifting gloves (pre SL) but I think I threw them out. I will be investing in something to protect my hands. Just not sure what yet.

Good luck on the anabolic diet! And your new program - 2 months will be gone soon...

It will be here soon. It's hard to believe January is 2 months away. Time flies. So I'm going to enjoy my gym "free" time while I have it.

Thanks Sandi. I appreciate it. :)

I decided on the AD because I do very well on low carb diets. I'm very carb sensitive especially wheat products. But the one day carb up will help me keep my sanity. I did AD back in February & found 2 days of carbing up didn't work for me. My goal has not changed. I want my bodyfat in the low 20s. Sad to say it is up to 31% again. That goddamn consistency thing again.

I'd like to incorporate it 1-2 times a week. I enjoyed it . . . pain aside. It's a good way to get my cardio & blow off steam. Two things I need right now.

Yeah . . . Michigan.

Todays workout

Squats
5x8 - 85lbs

Walked 15 minutes on the treadmill.

I had zero energy today. I guess that's what happens when you have a busy week, low carbs & get up at 4 am to workout. Oh well. Glad I went anyway and did something. Now for a good carb up day tomorrow & rest. Should be a good workout on Monday.

More good news on my brother. The cancer is NOT in the lymph nodes. So it is localized & should be treated successfully with chemo & radiation. It will be a rough 30 days but we'll take it one step at a time. Prognosis is still 80%.

I think I'm finding my direction. In fact I know I have. Despite everything going on I definitely need more structure & direction in my workouts. I've decided to go with 5,3,1. I'll be starting it in January I think. I plan on staying with it for a year. I think I'll learn a lot from that program sticking with it that long.

Also I started the AD. I am making a couple of tweaks. I know I respond very well to low carb diets so I'm skipping the 12 day induction. Also given my propensity to gain weight quickly from carbs I've opted for a 1 day carb up rather than the prescribed 2 day. I've been keeping track of the calories in fitday. They've averaged around 1700-1800. I've taken my measurements & bodyfat. Pictures will be next. I'm giving it 3 months then I'll decide whether to keep going on it or not.

Great news for both you and your brother, PG! So good to hear.

Although it would be fun to be unstructed in the gym for awhile...it will be exciting to dig in to the new program. And it will be great to have that to look forward to in January...delayed gratification :D

Exciting start on the diet too...i should look into fitday...never tried it. How has the diet been so far?

PG-

Great to read the news about your brother's test results.

I have to disagree with the sentiments of Ms. Nordin. Women, who when Squatting max weight, are WAY HOT.

It has been fun to not have structure in the gym. But I wouldn't advise it for too long. Hence my decision to start a program soon.

Exciting start on the diet too...i should look into fitday...never tried it. How has the diet been so far?

The diet has been good so far. But by the time i got 4-5 days into it it was harder to stick with. Carbs started looking better by the hour. I toughed it out & today I will carb up. I'm hoping that it gets a little easier but if not then I'll deal with it. No one said losing fat would be easy.

I agree & you are not the first person to point that out. But her comment is aimed at a woman's perspective of herself inhibiting lifting heavy & working hard in the gym.

Hope the treatment for your brother goes well, and i wouldn't worry too much about not following a program at the moment you have more important things going on in your life, the main thing is your still working out.

Hope you enjoy the new program in Janurary, though most people seem to be having a great time on 5/3/1
