I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

xxxx Not my picture, random dude xxxx

Hi guys

I am new to this website and new to SL. I am 26, 195lb and 23%bf.
I used to go to the gym 5 years ago but only did isolation and bench press, didn't know anything about
squats and deadlifts. Three weeks ago I started with SL. After day two I had a little bit of soreness nothing unusual. I started squating and deadlifting with the bar only. In 3 weeks I made an awesome progress or so i thought i did. I was using the squat smith machine, figuring I wont hurt myself that way, but i guess i was wrong. Anyway I managed to squat 105lb 5x5 but after that I got massive soreness in my right quadriceps and a sharp pain in my left leg on the side of it. Not really sure if its my glute but I provided the picture up there. So now every time I squat down i get that sharp pain. Its right by the bone closer to my left ass cheeck. My warmup would be a 1x5 reps bar only. I assume now that wasn't good enough. And also when i did my squats my legs were my shoulder witdh and they werent pointing outwards. I know now that's not the right way to do it.

Now after that injury i watched ripptoes videos
I figured the stance
I learned that i need to lift my ass up first
Tighten the glutes
warm up a lot more
and most importantly ditch the smith machine

Do you guys think its a serious injury and do you have any advice for me. Any comments much appreciated. Thank you!!

Oh and I forgot to mention how I am loving SL. Its a lot different walking out of gym with your whole
body pumped instead of just my biceps like before lol

Maybe a cramp? Do you drink enough/alot of water? Take fish oil supplements? L-glutamine or creatine? That has seemed to help me out with any pain...also enough protein helps from what I've experienced. Maybe a pinched nerve from bad form? No idea, I'm not a doctor haha, just giving my free/bad medical advice

I also read that if you are taking creatine, you have to drink more water...or you will get cramps. I do not use creatine, just from what I've read.

XX BUMP BUMP XX

Well I woke up this morning (4 days later and rest from gym) and my right quadriceps is fully recovered no soreness at all. I was still feeling a bit of a pinch in my left leg. I took about 20 minutes to properly warm up. Got to the gym did 2x5 with a bar only and then the same thing happened again only this time the pain felt like it was shooting up my left butt cheeck. This makes me think it has to be a pinched nerv. Anyone have any solution for this. On the plus side my overhead press when up

I had some discomfort in the same spot when I was just starting out, although it wasn't pain it felt more like a spasm. Mine was helped by thorough warming up and tennis ball massage.

It has since cleared up as I continued with the program. I suspect it was just my abductors being generally pretty weak and as they got used to the load they stopped playing up.

XXXX UPDATE XXX

I gave it about a month to recover went back to the gym and this time I would do A LOT OT STRECHING!
Started with low weight again and worked my way back up. The pain is gone now and I am able to squat 135lb after 3 months of 5x5. ALWAYS STRETCH BEFORE AND AFTER.
