I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Todays workout:

3 hours of roller skating at a kids birthday party. It was an 80s child's wet dream.

It was the first time my kids have ever skated. They picked up on it rather quickly. Not one injury . . . until we got home. My son's feet slipped on the stairs as he was going up. He has a cut on his chin & he bit both sides of his tongue. I was a little panicky at first. Screams & blood are never good. But once he settled down & I cleaned him up things settled a bit.

How's your son feeling now? Anything in the mouth bleeds a lot so it's deceptive on how bad the injury is.

I've never really gone skating as I don't have the balance for it and I only end up falling.

Ah skating !
Did that a LOT when I was younger. Add in a lot of bruises, scars and cuts on the elbows and you should be able to figure out we were not just turning rounds
Noooo, we skated on the street, on the basketball court, wherever, always trying to be faster then the others.
< sigh >

Good cardio session :)

I hope your son is ok now ? Those cuts on his tongue are going to hurt for a good week ...

@James - Initially there seemed to be a lot of blood (hence my panic) but once he got cleaned up I made sure everything was moving ok & used a flashlight to get a good look at his mouth to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I thought about taking him in especially for the cut on his chin. But the moment I mentioned stitches he paniced & started crying even harder. The bleeding had almost stopped & 1-2 stitches weren't going to be worth all the drama. So he'll have a small scar. How many of us don't have scars from childhood accidents?

@H - I didn't have my own skates growing up so my skating was all in a rink. That was the place to be.

I'm sure he will be sore this morning. He's still sleeping so we'll see.

Sure enough he was very sore & cried every time he tried to eat something. I kept him home from school today. Glad I did.

Today's workout:
Squats
5x5 - 75 lbs

OHP
5x5 - 50 lbs

Deadlift
2x5 - 135 lbs

Face pulls
3x10 - 60 lbs

Hanging knee raises
3xF (failure occurred around rep 5-6)

I focused on dynamic effort with my squats. I worked on exploding out of the hole. It was a good squatting session. Looking forward to adding more weight.

OHP - uneventful.

I started too low on my deadlift so I bumped it up to the big plates so the bar would be at the right height. One set wasn't enough. I had the energy so I went for a second set. Note to self - remember to bring chalk. I had to use mixed grip because I forgot it at home.

My left shoulder started bothering me during squats so I did some face pulls. It felt better afterwards.

Then I finished with 5x5 of the Bear. I'm fucking beat. Good workout. :D Now I'm off to seal the grout on my floors so I can have my kitchen in full working order.

You know, the deadlift just doesn't feel right unless you put on the wheels. Once I passed that weight, I've almost never warmed up with less than 60 kg.

Hmm, if the face pulls were therapeutic, I suppose I cannot give you grief over deviating from your program. ;)

@H - Video games did the trick. He forgot all about it after that.

@Guru - I couldn't agree more. Deadlifts definitely deserve the big wheels from the start.

@Mark - Surprisingly he improved well over the course of the day. But we kept to soft foods like oatmeal & pasta (no sauce).

@Muddy - :P

Todays Workout:

Squats
5x5 - 85 lbs

Bench
5x5 - 65 lbs

T Bar Rows
3x 8,8,5 - 40 lbs

Pushups
3x5,6,4

AWR

Finally getting the whole concept of DE. A little slow on the draw but I got it now. Squats are improving nicely. Glutes & hams are engaged. Still looking forward to more weight.

Bench was too easy. Glad 10 lbs will be added next week.

I couldn't find a place to do IRs as I was at the powerlifting gym rather than the gym close to home. So I opted for t bar rows. They've never been an issue in the past so I don't know what happened this morning but they hurt my shoulders. So much that after 5 reps on the last set I stopped. It was the 'OMG this fucking hurts' kind of pain. Next time I can't do IRs I will opt for BB rows or DB rows.

Muddy - Now you can give me grief for deviating.

This was another early morning workout. I skipped breakfast again. It didn't seem to have an adverse effect on my workout. I'm going to continue like this until such time it becomes a problem. If it becomes a problem.

I made sure it was plain pasta. He ate a whole bowl of it so it couldn't have been all bad.

The floors are finished!! My brother stopped over & helped me move the stove & fridge. I have a little more painting to do but other than that it's done. :D It's been too long coming.

Diet wasn't so good while the ktichen was tore up. Too much eating out. But things are back on track. A few more tweaks & I think I'll have something I can stick with. (damned consistency)

I don't understand it. My eating is the only area in my life that I'm totally inconsistent. Everything else is fairly consistent. Granted there are always minor deviations but for the most part it's consistent. But when it comes to food . . . . Diet is my weakest link. It's not for lack of knowlegdge I just suck at follow through. :x

Diet is typically the toughest part of any routine. I think most people suck at eating right and I think it's because it's habitual (meaning something that we really don't think about and we just "do" it). What worked for me was to be really strict and force myself to be that way. I didn't cheat for several months (no bread, grains, starchy veggies, sugar, etc) in order to build good habits. Now I'm much, much better about only eating whole foods because I've set the habits in place. It's not the easiest route to start out on but it seems to be the only way that I could do it. Kinda like when I quit smoking.

When I finally quit smoking for good it was when I realized that that behavior was not consistent with my values. I value my health. Maybe it's time to apply that to diet.

That is a strict approach. I might consider it just to break me of bad habits. Although I have to admit it's better than it was when I first started SL last year. Still not where I want it though.
