I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Today's workout.

Squats
5x5 - 105 lbs

Bench
5x5 - 75 lbs

IR
3x ? (I don't remember how many I did. Maybe 4-6 per set)

The bear
5 sets of 5 rounds.

From here on out I will be increasing 5 lbs each workout. If I continue with 10 lb increments coupled with my diet I will stall quickly.

Squats were good. I kept the rest in between sets short. The bar went up smoothly & form was dead on.

Same with bench except my 3rd set. I had a hard time with the set up which threw the lift off. I guess that's what happens when you bench in a commercial gym.

As I was wrapping up my workout a gentleman in a wheel chair came in with an assistant & a trainer. The assistant would help him out of his chair while the trainer worked with him. It amazes me the things I take for granted. I can only hope to have his strength someday. To be in there training . . . . . I was simply amazed at his determination. Not many people confined to a wheelchair would do that.

I think I'd go nuts if I didn't do something...it would depress the hell out of me if I couldn't squat or deadlifts, but I'd find a way to do pull ups or dips, something. Good for him.

As for the squats, I felt the same way about mine today...something in the air today that makes for good squattin'.

Smart taking it slow. Get some microplating for the bench while you're at it.

Nice workout - and yes that kind of thing is always inspiring. Just shows there are no excuses.

Ah, do you remember goddess how much you struggled to get to 100 lbs on the squats in the first run? This time it was a whizz, right?

Good thinking switching to 5 lb increments.

To be in there training . . . . . I was simply amazed at his determination. Not many people confined to a wheelchair would do that.

Hell, not many people not confined to wheelchair would do that too. Solid mental strength.

Agree on the microplating. You can buy some microplates off of amazon for pretty cheap.

That's great about the guy in the wheelchair and you're right about it being a reminder for all of us.

Thanks for sharing, PG.
It is funny you mention this, yesterday when driving home I was imagining what it would be like if I were in a weelchair.
I am convinced I would try to find a way to workout whatever possible but I would not be able to do it alone anymore, of that I am sure.

It surely is a mental wake-up call even for those being active like most of us around here.

I had forgotten all about that. You're right 100 lbs was a big sticking point. And yes it went up relatively easy this time. It took effort so don't mistake me there but compared to last time it was easy.

@H - I agree. No matter what I'd try to do something, anything to keep me moving. As burleywhite pointed out so many were probably pittying him. I don't pity him, I admire him! That kind of strength is amazing to me. I can only imagine what it would take to do what he was doing. And I hope should I ever face something like that that I'd be strong enough to keep going & not ever give up.

@burleywhite - Thanks for stopping by. I agree we should not pity them. They are no different than we are. They simply have more physical challenges to overcome.

I woke up this morning feeling tired & stiff. I wasn't looking forward to today's workout. But I told myself no being a wuss. Those weight were going to be mine. And so they were.

Squats
5x5 - 110 lbs

OHP
5x5 - 60 lbs

Deadlift
1x5 - 135 lbs
1x5 - 150 lbs
1x3 - 150 lbs

15 minutes cardio

It was a challenge keeping my head in the game this morning. Squats went smoothly. A couple of reps were off a bit form wise. But nothing major. I was surprised how well they went.

Deadlifts will stay the same weight for next B workout. I rounded my low back on the last couple of reps.

The rest of the workout was good. It kicked ass.

Now it's time for a shower & a day of cooking & prepping food for this weekend. :D

See how things have turned out ?
You felt tired and possibly were already thinking about skipping the session at some point in time. Correct ?

How fortunate you did not ;)
Proves once again your mind plays a big role in lifting weights.

I wasn't thinking about not going but the thought did cross my mind to lighten the weights. I doubted my ability to get through it.

But I know how important the mental side is so I worked hard to psyche myself.

In some way that is what strength training is all about. Nearly every time we go to the gym the battle rages in the six inches between our ears. Is the weight too heavy? Is my form correct? Should I deload? Will I hurt myself? Is this the best way to achieve my goals? Do I look stupid? Every set, every rep our focus is challenged, our determination tested. You really seem strong right now. You get it. I have been reading your log for nearly nine months and it always leaves me impressed. You simply lift the weight, battle be damned and then accept accolades from your large fan base which is highly deserved as you inspire each of us to win the battle as well.

Good work. Weights are very much a mental test as well as a physical one.
