I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Possession

Hi all, so recently I watched the Excorcist, Paranormal Activity and some other movies based around demonic possession, normally I would pass it off as just a movie but I hear a lot of stories that these things actually happen. I was wondering what you guys think about this subject, I personally believe that if it is true, then so are angles and what not that protect us from such events, but I don't know that's just my two cents on it.

My opinion over active imaginations coupled with hoaxes and electromagnetism. It's easy for me to say when I haven't seen any ghosts or UFOs. If people go to a haunted house than they will be extra weary and extra sensitive to things going on.

And I sort of agree with that, it happened to me the night I saw Paranormal Activity, I kept feeling and hearing things but I knew they were things that happen all the time but I just really never paid attention to it.

The mind is a powerful thing. I think that even if these paranormal things don't exist in a concrete sense, our minds make them real.

And when we have scientific ailments such as schizophrenia and multiple personalities, I don't think it's too hard to see how a "possession" might actually work.

Thats the 'magic' (pardon the ironic term) of great cinema. It lets your brain fool itself into believing, if only for a couple of hours, anything is possible (except that Madonna or Keanu Reeves can act). First time I saw that movie It scared the living shit out of me and still gives me the creeps, same with the Blair Witch project and the Omen.
I was much younger then however, and easily scared.
These days I'm old and jaded and in all my years have never witnessed a single solitary shread of evidence to support possession, miracles, curses, divination, vexes, magic, ESP, divine intervention, levitation ext..ect..- you get the picture. I call bullshit, though Im happy (waiting) to be proven wrong.
Fortunately most of us can enjoy a movie, step outside the theater into the daylight and get on with life.
And then there are some who want to change their religion to Jedi..

I agree with the first part, but I don't think extraterrestrials can be lumped in with ghosts or other supernatural beings. The sheer number of planets dictates that there almost has to be some other planet that has life on it. It may not be intelligent, sentient beings, it may only be single celled organisms, but it's likely that there is something else out there.

I don't believe that any of the UFO stories are true though, simply because of the distance that needs to be traversed in order to reach our planet. As anyone who lives here knows, it's not worth the trip. It seems more likely that we'll never meet another life form, at least in the foreseeable future.

As far as possession goes, the only people that have things like that 'happen' to them tend to be credulous to begin with. I've never heard of a true skeptic that has had a supernatural experience.
