I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Just printed off this shot of Dave Draper squatting: Image

And this one of Arnold: Image

Going to put it up in my garage for a bit of motivation (ignoring the block under their heals obviously!).

Anyone else got any good ones?

Maybe not what you had in mind, but this is what I run through my mind before I deadlift:

Every time I hear that sound it makes me want to rip a barbell off the ground and throw it through the ceiling 8)

Where did you find those training photos?
Barbell training in black and white looks awesome, not sure why i guess it has a grainy tough look to it if that makes sense lol.

Beautiful images of Arnold and Dave squatting. Thanks for sharing.
Rere's training log II
The squat, press, deadlift, and bench press have been used for decades by the strongest athletes on the planet. There is good reason for that. Any program that doesn’t use them is inferior to one that does.

@WP, that's some noise! Do you make the same noise when you are about to lift?

@WHB, I'd seen those photos around, so googled "arnold squatting" and checked the image tab. Think Dave Draper has an archive on his website too.

@rere, no problem. Find those really inspiring, so hopefully other will too.

Ah right cheers i might have a look, what id really like to see is some photos of lifting during the development of photography so some really early stuff. But generally anything old interests me.

Thanks, i have looked at that thread. I mean really early though.

I have found this site:http://www.oldtimestrongman.com/blog/2009/06/john-grimek-one-arm-barbell-snatch.html and thats quite interesting. I can't remember but it might have been brought to my attention on this website. I like a lot of the old one arm exercises, people always look really strong when using just the one arm, and its great for all the stabilization muscles. I just find the old images really inspiring.
