I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

preparing food in advance

Postby iCookie on Sun Nov 01, 2009 11:06 pm

If I preper all the food that I should eat next day in advance, would it be okay to put the prepared food in the fridge?

I eat stuff like pasta, ground round, omeletts etc?

Can these things handle being put in the fridge for 10 hours+?

I heard that if you put the prepared food in the fridge for the next day it will alter some of the nutritions because of the cold but I dont know if its true?

Better to put it in the fridge and prevent growth of bacteria than leave it out overnight and almost guarantee problems. In other words, put it in the fridge!

I use a tupperware box and put it in the fridge.... i am just wondering if the cold fridge will kill the nutrition in the food?

If it has a significant effect on nutrition I'd have died of malnutrition by now, as I do this with basically all my food. Although I don't think eggs taste very good after refrigeration (hard boiled is okay, but scrambled, or omelette-ified not so good) , so I usually don't do that. Generally, when I cook I try to make enough to last 3 or 4 days, way more than 10+ hours.

I was under the impression that many people on the forum do this, as other wise there is no time to prepare food.

I make salads and other stuff to last me 2 or 3 days at a time. Perfectly healthy, as long as you're using fresh ingredients.

After watching the Evan Centopani series on youtube (posted in the links section) I started doing more batched meals, mashed potatoes are good for 3-4 days. I also watched another video with Evan Centopani on youtube and he cooks food for 4 days at a time, so food stores quite well. He eats mostly rice or mashed potatoes, with some kind of green (broccolli, greenbeans, etc) with some kind of meat (generally either chicken or white fish).
