I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

i touch my shoulders on the chin ups and my chest in the pulllups or heaving as it is called in the armed forces.it is essentially a matter of flexibility of your back.

I put a mental image of chest to bar, elbows to ribs for pull ups. It helps me use my back more and generate more power. It is much harder than chin over bar.

On chin-ups I touch chest to bar, on pullups I get my chin over the bar.

When i do pullups or chinups i allways do chest to bar, with a noticible pause at the top, maybe a second. I strive for quality over quantity, reps are not that important to me as currently i am only doing weighted pullups of 5 reps, or pullups on a Training board to strengthen my fingers (i rock climb), so again high reps is not used for finger safety. I have not tested for max reps in ages.

Reason for chest to bar?? Well when i squat i could stop at parallel, but i go ATG, same analogy here, i could stop at chins but i do chest.

End of the day whatever floats your boat 8), But i guess if you were competing with a friend or whatever, then before hand 'rules' could be established:P

I generally start the set getting my chest to the bar, but as the set wears on - it ends up being chin above the bar
