I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

well this brings up a question I was going to ask... what are considered large legs. 16 inch arms are the standard large arms right? Well is there any specific number for legs, I sit at 5' 9 and my legs are 24.5 inches with very little fat.. I'm fine with them growing larger.. but at what size can I be proud.

Just takes one response, but sorry for the thread hijack

30+ inch thighs would look just disgusting, not to mention you''ll be stuck wearing sweat pants for the rest of your life lol

I have a problem in the same vein as the OP. My thighs have GOTTEN too big (I'm about 5' 11'' and I have 29" thighs and huge ass, it's genetic in my family).
Now squats are my favorite exercice but I frankly want to lose leg muscle mass. Same thing for the glutes. It would make getting new pants way less of a hassle for one thing. However I greatly appreciate the strength that the squats give me and would like to keep it. I read a poster in the thread that recommanded 3X5 for squats to prevent muscle gain but what about induce muscle loss?

I though about dropping squats entirely for a long while (yes I know thats the cardinal sin) but keep doing cleans and deadlifts for keep leg strength. Any advice? Maybe do really heavy sets like 3X3 once per week?

Saying that 16" is standard for big arms is just like saying 24" is standard for big legs. Have you seen the photos of my thighs in my log? Mine are only 22", but on my frame they look massive. My arms are only 13-14" depending on if flexed or not, but they look pretty big on my frame too. While on a guy who is 6' both would look tiny.

Anyway, I went through a similar stage where I thought are my legs and ass getting too extreme here? After some thought the answer may still be yes, but the sentiment has changed from "I care about what people think about my appearance" to "I care about being stronger".

Everyone has unique physical features and some can be drawn to the surface or exaggerated through weight training, but they are still YOU in essence. Why try to alter YOU to look more like someone else? Learn to accept your massive legs and butt and use them to your advantage and squat the hell out of that bar!

Maybe you could drop the repetitions and just do heavy singles? Or heaven forbid, just stop doing heavy squats/deadlifts lol, sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do...maybe you could take up running or something instead for your leg work

Not sure how to actually reduce muscles though....maybe lower caloric intake.

I never get why people don't want big legs. You know how you can tell if a person who works out is strong or not? IMO the size of thier legs, not biceps, not shoulders but whatever you want. Personally I welcome leg size more than any other part of my body. But as Mehdi would say it, "to each their own"

Yeah its quite bizzar that big legs are digusting to some ppl. But no matter how big your biceps got, no man would say thats yuck.

Probably because your legs (thighs) and ass seem to grow a lot faster than any other part of your body - leading to a somewhat unbalanced appearance in the novice trainee (I've certainly noticed this myself, I have 24" thighs and 12-13" upper arms.

I don't mind though, me legs have slowed down and the muscular thighs improve the appearance of the hips and trunk on my taller frame.

In my opinion, big legs with a small upper body looks alot better than a big upper with a skinny lower.

I had a pair of size 32" jeans that i bought late last year. They were a decent fit when i wore them very early on this year. Now, they look like a pair of light blue leotards on me if i wear them. They are literally skin tight around my butt and thighs now. Still fit okay around my waist though. Good and bad i guess.

Having nicely built legs is ideal, it just sucks trying to find clothes to suit. I have one pair of 32" jeans that i actually feel comfortable wearing at the moment that look okay on me. The only solution seems to be to go into 34" pants, but i haven't found any that look okay :(

I had the same problem! I found, however, that if you pay that little bit more for a proper well known brand (levis, wrangler, ben sherman etc) then they generally cater much better to people with larger thighs than other cheaper shop brands! Their clothing is generallyuch better designed to support a natural curvature I have found; they have many different styles, so some are going to be able to suit your needs!

16" is not the benchmark for massive arms. I'd say 18/19 is.

Anyway, you can always wear sweatpants with the excuse i can't help being so damn strong.

Lol, funny you should mention this....my old Levis/Wrangler jeans that used to be too big now fit me after Stronglifting for 8 months...but my super nice and expensive Rock and Republic Jeans my girlfriend gave me are too tight now...the waist is fine, but the thighs and hips area is much too tight ....oh well, nice as they are, those jeans were way overpriced

I have a similar problem, my body is out of balance
6ft1.5inch/186cm and 98-99kg / 218lbs
only 42.5inch chest which consists mainly of lats (my upper back is ok)
15.3inch arms
17 inch calves
26 inch thighs

goal is to get squat from 1.7x BW to 2xBW+
deadlift from 2.2xBW to 2.5xBW+
bench from 1.13xBW to 1.5xBW+
and arms 17inch+
chest 47inch+
and keeping my leg size the same

im planning to do bill starrs 5x5 this year again for 3-4 months as I got some good weight and strenght gains with it last year
but ill keep everything the same just do squats like 5x3 or something like that? and ill add chest flies once per week to help my chest up
