I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Decided to start a new log. I am going to do the Jim Wendler routine. Read a lot about it and like the layout. I'll be doing it three times a week or when I can fit a workout in. I'm starting on Monday the 24/8/09.
Looking forward to continually eek out progress.
Let's get started

Peace.

First to post in your new log

I'm looking forward to this one. We'll be starting just a couple of weeks apart on this program. Are you going to give some background on why you're changing?

@James, it's a routine that looks simple enough to follow. Beginner gains have all but dried up for me. I have read feedback on this program, it's very positive as you know already.

@Mpetry, go to elifefts they have a large amount of information on the program, or you could google Jim Wendler. The latter is what I did. I know its not the holy grail of training, I like the fact that you can use one main lift per day, it will suit me as the missus complains I am in the gym for too long :D She keeps me on my toes.

No doubt I'll get to play around with some assistance work as well. I was going to try the Texas method may give that a go in the future. I don't like the idea of testing rep maxes weekly or close to them. When I'm under the bar for a few more years then I can start playing around more.

Thanks guys
First workout Monday can't wait. 8)

Good luck with the new routine mate. I've no idea how the JW routine looks but it will be good to learn from your experience.

@Markg, Jim Wendler

Here's a picture of it. I did not include assistance exercises I'll keep them on a separate sheet.
It's a simple wave progression apparently.
You can tell from looking at it. 1 main exercise per training day and then assistance to help that exercise.
I'm sure I'll have joy and pain on it. :D

@Nilan666...cheers mate, steadily I'll get there,I don't want any injuries to get in the way, although you never know what can happen a year from now. :D

Peace.

Thanks for the pic. It may be a 'simple' wave but I would definitely need to take my notepad with me! 3x5, then 3x3 heavier next time, then 5/3/1 next, then a light 3x5. I like the variety it offers and I guess you intermediate guys need that to make progress :)

Like you say, I'm sure you can't wait to get stuck in.

Yeah there is a deload every 4th week. Then the next cycle starts a little higher.
Wendler does say to start a new cycle with 10lbs on the Squat and Deadlift and 5lbs on the Press and Bench. When you working in kilo's its not an exact science, so Ill be doing 2.5kg across all exercises. Wont hurt to try it anyway. I'm an optimistic kinda geezer. As long as something goes up at the end of the cycle I wont mind.
Word has it to stay on many cycles, possibly 7!

yesterday i did up a quick spreadsheet and plugged in some weights. looks like an intense program, although i don't know how i'd feel about only training squats once every four workouts.

good luck with it

Well you can add the Squat as an assistance exercise as well obviously with lighter weight for more reps or include front squats.
The program from what I can tell is saying you do the main four lifts and then you play around with assistance work depending on your goals. Just keep it simple and remember that the main lifts are what your really supposed to excel at.
It's all part of the fun no doubt i'll be curling at some point too 8)
I have to remind myself that I am having fun working out as well.

I've just read your one-year summary at the end of your first log and it was fun to read. 170 kg DL and 70 kg press is monstrous! You've come a long way, mate 8) You're really obsessed with that 300 kg DL, aren't you? Haha. In a few years' time, I wouldn't be too surprised.

Looking forward to seeing you progress on this new program.
