I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Another thing Guru, the Squat rack i use is not shaped like a power rack at all, even when i am in the hole for my height, the barbell is no where near the safety bars! So if i want to dump the weight i have to throw myself forwards and am i am sure i would do myself a nasty injury doing that. It's designed for guys who are like below 5"8 or something, all the tall guys have complained about it and as usual the gym don't do shit. So i decided to make a decision and now i am doing something about it. Well my gran did say God helps those who help themselves

Power rack workout

Postby rere » Fri Jul 17, 2009 7:51 pm

@RBtrout....you know It was the right thing to do, after all the squat rack they have is well out of date, I had an accident on it and hurt my hand, it was only a matter of time to get a rack. or should I say a good rack, one that works properly. There is so much crap out there.

@Guru...cheers mate, we all huddled round the power rack like a shiny new toy, or a bunch of men around a camp fire on a cold winters night, I even had a Guinness to celebrate, well two, which was naughty, should not lift while partially drunk... :?

17/07/09

Well as some of you who might join in my celebration today, the Power Rack came and man…..was a sight to behold. Glistening and shit, it was sweet to construct, took well over two hours as me and gym manager and friends were talking about all the wonderful Barbell exercises we could do in it and around it.

Squats: Not really 3x5 today it was time to put myself to the test and Squat for the first time without someone trying to get me from behind.
1x12x60kg
1x10x80kg
1x7x100kg
1x1x120kg PR
1x1x135kg missed it!
1x2x100

Went crazy with the Squats. We both worked together, It was nice to go down and knowing the safety of the bars would come to the rescue, although I am sure a spotter would be used with the bars or not in the future, for that little push out of the hole. :)
We went so far gym manager wanted to do box squats I was like whoa steady man, enough time for those.
All sets were with at least 5-6 mins rest. I loaded the bar with 120 and went down and shockingly came back up. Awesome I thought I got a new PR for one rep. I then loaded the bar with 135 and went down and stayed down. I’ll try again next month see if I can get 135kg.
After the Squat fest then came the Press.

Ohp: 55kg 5/5/5
2x10x20
1x5x35
I was not going to go crazy with the Press. 55kg felt tough but had enough in me to push.

DL: This guy really needs to get more plates.
1x5x60
1x6x80
1x5x120
Again not serious today, should of Deadlifted 147.5kg but no plates to get to this weight.

Pull ups: 1x10(at BW)
Drained!

Good all round session. So have more fun to play with now that the Power Rack is here, I can adjust the safety bars to my liking and it feels real good to push myself. Monday I have the 112.5kg Squat for 3x5 I have got to get this.

:D

Peace.

120kg is a good PR weight!

What brand rack is that? Looks like mine.

@ Bluegreyhound...Manufacturer is Bodymax. Mikedesc has the same one as well. I think it can handle max 200kg. Although I wont be testing it for a while yet. 135kg felt crushing, like the weight was trying to push me over I went down and and hit the pins, i was smiling as i would of never attempted that, not even with a spotter. I never realized how much confidence it gives you, the power rack i mean. I have mentioned that word "POWER RACK" all day i need to shut up.

Rere-

Enjoy the freedom that the rack can provide. My Squat and Bench went up markedly as soon as we obtained one for our gym.

Can't wait to see where you go from here.

p.s. You're a good man to have helped out your gym like that...

Congratulations on your new power rack, Rere. This is where things heat up! I know what you mean about the camp fire thing. It is truly a beast of beauty. I can't wait to get back in mine!

 Thanks Guys. It truly is a lovely piece of equipment. I have just found out if we paid a bit extra we could of bought one which handled more weight like 350kg. That one is taller and about 9ft and I would be able to Press in it too. Helping the gym is the least i could do, everyone is happier and there is a nice vibe there, it's a small gym so we all try to help each other out when possible.
Anyway Monday its back to work 8)

Peace.

Nice rack rere. The squat rack at our gym is stupidly low too. Safety bars are a waste of time on it. You should get some great progress on the new one. Have fun!

Thanks markg, yeah the safety bars were a joke. So frustrating trying to talk to ppl about it and they look at you as if your crazy, one guy said i should just get a spotter if the safety bars are too low, I'm like "duh". Never mind it's sorted now, oh by the way did you see Mouse Deadlift attempt at 190kg?
