I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Restarting StrongLifts, starting weight question

Hey guys,
I'm restarting stronglifts 5x5 after time off due to injury, illness, and travel. I had a bit of a back injury which left me unable to squat or deadlift for a while, so I have been doing upper body workouts for the past month. I think I am finally able to start squatting and deadlifting again, but I am going to start very light on those and focus on form.
Since I have been doing bench and ohp recently, however, it seems like it might be a bit off to start with the empty bar on those. For reference here are my stats:
5'6" (167 cm)
about 165 lbs (75 kg or so). 17% bodyfat
bench 5 RM 185 lbs
ohp 5 RM 115 lbs

given those stats, what starting weights would give me a good base? I don't want to cheat myself out of gains and stall too soon, but I feel like I am too strong to start with an empty bar, especially on bench. Can anyone give me some insight? Thanks a lot!! :)

If your form is good on both these, than start about 30% lower than these weights.
