I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

adamr is doing it right now (2nd cycle, I think), so am I (first cycle).
I haven't found a review/testimonial on it, though (may fill that gap myself after having done some cycles if this is still the case by then).

Yes, I'll write up a review as soon as I finish this second cycle. It'll be just in time for xmas!

I just wrote a review for Madcow/Bill Starr's 5x5. It was the first fullbody barbell program I had ever used and I pretty much did everything wrong, so hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes.. Although I think just having found this website makes the people reading this more knowledgeable than me at that time.

Added review on 1st cycle of SL Advanced.

Suggestion:

Wouldn't it be better to group the various programs as follows:

Beginner
- Stronglifts 5x5 Beginner

Intermediate Linear
- Texas Method
- Bill Starr 5x5 Intermediate

Intermediate Periodized
- Stronglifts Advanced

Advanced
- 5/3/1 (is this correct ??)

Specialised
- Coan Philippi
- Korte's 3x3

5/3/1 would depend on the users ability to pick their assistance exercises correctly and keep their ego in check. If they can do those two things. I don't see why a beginner wouldn't benefit greatly from it.
Current 1RM: Squat 140kg, 100kg Bench Press, 180kg deadlift.

Goals: Squat 150kg, 110kg Bench Press, 200kg deadlift.

from reading the e-book, this is my understanding. wendler gives several examples of beginners doing quite well on the program (though I don't know whether they'd be doing better on something like SL or SS as there are no direct comparisons). plus, you don't really even need to pick your assistance. just do the BBB with supplemental pullups, dips and ab work.
my log

current lifts (1x5): squat- 310, bench- 215, deadlift- 315
goals for 2010: squat- 400, bench 300, deadlift 500

Beginners can do 5/3/1 but if you're a beginner you can make much faster progress on SS, SL or even something like Madcow. I also don't think that most have the ability to keep their ego in as much check as you need to with 5/3/1.

Can you tell me some of these examples? By beginners are we referring to people who have never touched a weight in their lives or something different?

Just curious if anyone has heard of the BFS (Bigger, Faster, Stronger) workout? I did it in High School.
http://www.biggerfasterstronger.com/upl ... orkout.pdf

Week 1: 3x3
Week 2: 5x5
Week 3: 5-4-3-2-1
Week 4: 10-8-6

Cycle this every month. Lifts include all the basic Strength Lifts. I recall having great results with it
in High School. I'm doing a revised Texas Method now and "thinking" about trying this again without the speed, agility and plyometrics parts on Tue/Thur.

Thoughts anyone?
