I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

That's great rigglet, you working out with your son.  I have a 15 year old son too who is going to start working out with me too.  I'm sure you read about it in this thread:

Good luck with it and take care in your travels.

Wednesday  2/27/2008
Squat - 150 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Bench - 140 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Rows - 105 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Dips - 6/5/5
Cardio: No cardio today.
Comments:
Squats still feel really light, but I know it is for the best.  Bench is finally getting "heavy".  It's still not difficult, but I at least feel like I'm working at it.  I've decided to alternate cardio and ab work.  I feel like I'm getting strong everywhere except my abs, so I feel a little ab work is in order.

Squat - 155 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Overhead - 85 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Deadlift - 205 lbs. 5
Pull ups - 3/2/2
Cardio: 15 minutes on the elipitcal machine.
Comments:
Added one to the pull ups.  Still not very impressed with only doing 3 on the first set, but it will get there.  Did cardio today in place of abs.  I am so mad that I am going to miss Monday and Wednesday next week due to work travel.
I'll hit it hard on return.  I want to hit BW squats by summer.

Squat - Unable to perform
Bench - Couldn't do the normal routine
Rows - Couldn't do the normal routine
Dips - Could not perform

Cardio: 15 minutes on the elipitcal machine.
Comments:
Well they had a "gym" at the hotel, but it only contained some cardio equipment and one "all in one" machine.  No free weights.  So I tried to do exercises that closely mimiced what I would be doing.  I guess it better to do something than nothing at all.

Squat - 160 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Bench - 145 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Rows - 110 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Dips - 6/6/5
Abs - 3x10
Comments:
Squats are starting to feel heavier.  Still not super tough, but heavier.  I notice a real difference now that I am very focused on my technique.  Deep squatting is certainly making them much harder than before.  Today was the first day working out with my son.  He is struggling with the concept of starting so light.  I've told him to stick with it and he will see how fast the weights increase.

Squat - 165 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Overhead - 90 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Deadlift - 215 lbs. 5
Chin-Ups - 2.5/2.5/2
Burpees - 3x10
Comments:
Lifts all felt great this morning!  Squats felt lighter today than on Friday.  My chin-ups still suck, but I continue to work on them.  I decided to add burpees today because I thought it would be fun to do something different.  Burpees are definitely not fun.   But they are hard and I will keep them in my routine.  Toughest part is finding room to do them in a crowded gym.  When you are 6'4" you need quite a bit of space to do burpees. hehe

Dips - 6/6/6
Burpees - None today due to time constraints
Comments:
Squats still feel kind of light, but getting heavier.  The bench is finally getting to a stage where it feels heavy also.  My son was with me this morning and because I needed to get him home so he could get ready for school I had to skip my burpees.  I'll do double the next time I'm in the gym.

All weights are feeling great!  It is so nice to be able to be back in the swing of things.  After reading Mehdi's article earlier this week about hip mobility and glute activation, I realize I need to add some more stretching/flexibility training to my off days.  I do not want that nasty hip thing coming back just when I start to make some progress.
My son was having fun with the workout this morning...until we got to the burpees.   He wasn't happy with those at all.   But he worked through them...for the most part.  His burpees left a little bit to be desired, but he'll get there.

Rows - 120 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Dips - 7/6/6
Burpees - None today due to time constraints.
Comments:
Squats are cracking me up.  The past few workouts the weights feel real heaving for the first two sets.  Then they feel rather easy for the next three.  Oh well.  I'm almost to my first goal of 200lbs with no hip/groin pain.  After that it will be body weight and then 300lbs.  But first to 200!
Suprisingly my son is still getting up at 5AM and going to the gym with me.  He says he really likes the workout.  I hope he will still like it when the weights get heavy.

He has been at it for just over a week, so his weights are:
Squat - 60lbs
Bench - 55lbs
Rows - 50lbs
Overhead - 45lbs
Deadlift - 85lbs
I will have him start a log...as soon as he gets his computer privleges returned.  He has lost them due to some problems at school/home.

Squat - 185 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Overhead - 100 lbs. 5/5/5/5/5
Deadlift - 235 lbs. 5
Chin-up - 3/2/2
Comments:
Great workout this morning.  Weights seemed heavy, but I think it is because the order of the exercises got messed up.  It's the downside of woring out at a public gym.   Order was overhead, squat, chin-ups, deadlift.  Squats felt real heavy, but again I am attributing it to doing overhead first.
Hip flexor has been bothering me a bit lately.  Not nealy as bad as last time, but just enough to be annoying.  And it's only on the right side, which is odd.  I'm going to keep working on hip mobility/flexibility and see where it takes me.  I'm also going to video myself doing squats next week and post it for comment.  Maybe I am doing something wrong that I don't even realize which is causing the problem.

Great work, rigglet. Glad to see you back in the groove again after your injury.  Your son is 15 right?  Just curious, but what are his height and weight?  I figure he is pretty tall since you are so tall.

Thanks.  It is great to be back in the swing of things.
My son is almost 6 feet tall and weights around 140lbs.  He's very much like I was at 15...tall and skinny.  He is hoping to be close to body weight squats before the start of next football season (August).
