I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Semi or whole milk, how much difference does it make?

Semi or whole milk, how much difference does it make?

How much difference do you think it makes drinking semi skimmed over whole? i've read that results are not as good with semi as with whole. thing is , at work we have pretty much an endless supply of semi milk so its very convenient to just grab a few glasses of that every few hours. i'm still drinking whole milk, but usually not until i get home / before i go out to work. so yeah, is it still worthwhile drinking even though its only semi skimmed? i imagine the fat-to-muscle gain ratio will be affected

You might as well if its free. Drink some heavy cream after to get some of that fat you are missing out on.

This is often debated on here where whole milk is usually reccomended for skinny people to gain weight quickly and I don't know if that applies to you. I drink semi-skimmed and the only difference I saw when I looked at the labels was that semi-skimmed has less fat.

So just to summarize, semi skimmed has as much protein as whole milk and is very capable of helping you to put on muscle.

I am inclined to say drink it because I am a huge fan of free calories. However, you are missing out on the extra fat and calories that come from that fat. The fat is a big part of why GOMAD works. I would do what you are doing now, drink the whole milk at home, and just toss in a few glasses for the extra intake.

By the way, where do you work that hands out endless glasses of milk? It sounds wonderful. Is there anyway you can convince them to get some whole milk for you?

Whole milk is better as its more calorific and has more fat as mentioned. There is nothing wrong with semi-skimmed however (unless your trying to follow GOMAD).

I drink a lot of milk (not GOMAD though) and often have a plastic pint bottle with my lunch at work, so im sat in the middle of a call centre downing milk, so i can sympathize with you Kingdamo as i get funny looks! (i asked my manager if i could keep a cow in the office for milking to save me running to the shops lol, she just gave me an odd look...)

I'd say it's better than not drinking milk at all.

You could try drinking twice as much semi to make up for the missing fat and see what happens. 2GOSSMAD. :)

My company's fridges are also full of semi, and even horid fully skimmed milk. Ironically, we also have complimentary fridges full of soft drinks - people think nothing of wolfing down half a dozen cokes per day, yet get scared at the thought of having a dribble of full fat milk in their tea or coffee. Crazy world.
