I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I love this forum. I have learned a ton here. But there is something that is really pissing me off ( no offense intended) maybe I'm jealous.

Time and time again a skinny boy is asking how to become a big strong man. The answer is so simple even my grandma knows it cuz she said it all the time when I was a kid, Boy, the strength goes through your mouth! If you wanna become big and strong, eat to get big, lift heavy to get strong. I am envious of all you kids. You have a full dose of testosterone and every other hormone swimming around in your little stick bodies. Bodies that are just begging for stimulus to grow big and strong. Stimulus like a heavy barbell on your back! Look, women dont care about abs! Let me say that again, women dont care about abs. I cant count the times the hottie is with the big or even fat guy, look around if you dont believe me. Women also dont want a guy that is smaller than them! So whats the point of this, dont ask what to do just find something to eat, something heavy to lift. If you are stalling on light weights and still dont weight 200lbs or better, eat more!

thank you for tolerating my rant. happy lifting.

It just requires more effort. And usually milk.

Interesting topic, especially for me at the moment.
I'm a big dude but I do carry too much fat on my belly. Therefore the last few days I've been trying to eat lower carbs & have been managing to get the intake down considerably. & those carbs that I am ingesting are from much better sources (fruit & veg as opposed to spuds, rice, pasta etc).
However, I'm finding it hard to eat my maintenance calories of 4500 cals a day, real hard without drinking pure fat for example lol.
I even remarked to my gf yesterday that I don't want to be ripped at all so its got me wondering whether I should carry on with this lose fat quick thing. I definitely don't want to shrink &/or lose strength and I fear thats what will happen if I can't get my cals above the low 3000s mark.
Plus, dunno if anyone else has experienced this but the low carb thing seems to be turning me into a right moody ba$t*rd! That normal?
Anyway, long n short of it is I'm considering going back to just eating as big as possible and throwing carbs back in & hoping that the SL will burn the fat slowly instead of trying for this rapid fat melt thing.

That's normal at first, it's referred to as "low-carb flu"... it should go away in a few weeks once your body adapts to using fat for fuel.

That might be helpful.

It is indeed this simple.
Too simple maybe, that's why most don't believe it

It's coming to forums like these and reading a bunch of conflicting and complicated info that screws with us hardeaters. :D

meh, not really. it's more about getting over the fear of gaining some weight (maybe some fat too). I used to think I was a hardgainer (it's really more of a mindset than actually genetics); I weighed about 140lbs at 6' at the end of high school. Since then (4.5 years), I have gained 45+lbs. I don't know specifics, but most of it was muscle and I wasn't even training well most of the time. I only started making real progress in the past 9 months or so. The goal this year is to be >200lbs to support my lifting goals. If you want simple, dogmatic and pretty well proven advice, check out the site I posted (http://www.70sbig.com). There is nothing complicated about that site and certainly nothing conflicting.

steps to getting 70sbig (>200lbs and damn strong):

1. get on a linear progression program for as long as you can (they recommend starting strength, but SL5x5 will work too)
2. eat lots of protein, carbs and fats (beef, tuna, pasta, calorically dense foods)
3. drink lots of milk
4. get lots of rest
my log

current lifts (1x5): squat- 310, bench- 215, deadlift- 315
goals for 2010: squat- 400, bench 300, deadlift 500

Oh, that made me chuckle...I've never hear so many arguments and counter-arguments condensed down to one sentence

A calorie is a calorie. There is no clean.

4000 calories of brocoli could make you just as fat as 4000 calories of cheese burgers (you'd need a pretty big stomach of course).
