I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

>Girls indeed don't like it.
That is why I don't have a girl, I got a Lady!
She loves my beard.
Still don't know what's supposed to be so great with the new gillete stuff compared to the old excell 2 blade one i used 7 years ago.

If I went back to shaving i suppose i would definetly try something like that.

i was going to ask people on the shaving techniques a while ago lol. good post MJH
i started shaving recently just using shaving oil. no soap or foam. i also just started pulling the razor down on a 45 ish degree angle, cutts through hairs like a giloteen that way.

I love the brush and sopa thing, been doing it for a year now and nothing compares to it. I use a common shick quattro because I'm good and cutting myself while shaving and that blade has a few strings that prevent that. I don't shave daily since I have a rather temperamental skin but as I mentioned before the brush and soap after hot water on your face are the best thing (after a kiss from wife of course). After I'm done shaving I rinse with very cold water, pat dry and apply some aftershave gel.

Hey, I just read al the posts and ther seems to be a commom thread: the wifes/girlfriends don't like to see the flubbies dissapear!, LOL. But I bet they love it when their friends tell them they wish they had such studs like us, LOL
And I'm sure is the same with the girls doing the program.

mjh, I tried looking on the site for the $60 kit, but I couldn't find it. Could you please inform me as to where it is? I'm very interested in Classic Shaving.

I started shaving old-school about a year ago when these youtube videos came out:

http://lifehacker.com/software/grooming/introduction-to-traditional-wetshaving-197065.php

I slowly aquired everything I needed through birthday/holiday gifts, now have an Edwin Jagger best badger brush, a Merkur HD long, a couple tubs of eShave and a tube of Prorasso.

The best part is buying ten blades for $3 from KMart that are sharper than the $20 for 10 Mach 3 blades. Also, my face has never looked better and I've never shaved more regularly in my life (I used to loathe it and breakout like a teenager after shaving).

  • Pinaud/Clubman Styptic Pencil,  $2.59 (for the nicks, which seldom happen)

  • Order Subtotal:   $60.13

Mjh,

Is the website the only place to find these items, or is there a chance I may find them in the local grocery store?

I'm not sure. Where I'm from, New Zealand, no. Elsewhere, I couldn't say. I'm sure replacement razors can be found easily, but the razors and soaps might be a little more "boutique". All this stuff is also available on Amazon and ebay.

Cheers. How is it in New Zealand? I have a few very good friends from there and have not yet gotten the chance to go. Fine people the Kiwis. Thanks for the info.

I'm missing it a lot. Teaching in Korea right now to pay off the student loans, so I can go back to NZ and rack up some more for a masters degree.

You can't beat a good shave, but I'm a semi-caveman sporting only a goatee, although it's a long biker style goatee. I started using a straight razor last year which took some getting used to and I still use a normal safety razor to shave my head as you need to see what you're doing with a cut-throat and I need both ears to rest my glasses on.

these numbers will go up (except the bench....bloody shoulder joint)

Thought I would try this. Bought everything but the razor yesterday at local pharmacy. Spent about $20 and that includes some aftershave.
