    I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. :lol: But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Ironworks are great. Pendlay's site has cheaper weightlifting shoes, which are probably pretty good as well.

Kerberos:
I guess i should get some flatsole shoes for weightlifting and switch between them in the gym.

This is what I do. I wear my trainers to the gym, do a few minutes cardio to warm up, then change shoes for the lifting and then back again for the elliptical. I have worn my Converse on the elliptical, I just don't like them as well for that.

So I read a lot of people vouching for Chucks, but what about real weight lifting shoes like the AdiStar or the IronWorks II mentioned above? Anyone tried them? And Pendlay's site shows Suede Do-Win Weightlifting Shoes. Any insight into those? Not real big on the looks of the Do-Wins, though.

Those are all good shoes, but are more expensive than chuck taylor's. Weight lifting shoes are better however for olympic lifts (the heels helps depth in front squat/oh squat position, and helps landing). For squats/deads etc chucks will do.
Much depends also on how you're going to squat. Must make an article on this. Thanks for giving me the idea Chad;

Guess I'll look around this weekend and see if I can find a pair of Chucks in my size. My beloved Michael Vick Nikes :-) are a 15 so I might have to do some hunting. It'll be nice to retire them while they are still in good condition, though. No matter what stupid things he did, his signature shoe is one of the best I've ever worn.

If money is not an issue and you're just looking for the best shoe possible then I'd definitely go with weightlifting shoes.  Aside from the advantages Mehdi stated, they also create amazing stability when squating and OHPing.
But if money is an issue then chucks seem to be a very popular, and good alternative.

I'm considering geting some for everyday life as well. I've got three pair of high powered "sneakers" from various companies and they all suck. Maybe old school is the best. My dad jogged in hi-top all-stars for years.

They weren't bad for running at all. Hell I was the 3rd fastest sprinter there. That says alot since I rarely run and am not in the best aerobic shape at the moment.

I work out barefoot and I can strongly recommend ditching your shoes. I started lifting with my running shoes, but after going with the ways of nature I've improved my technique and it's more comfortable than before. I'm thinking of purchasing some Chuck Taylor's or even some weight lifting shoes. Should I go through with a purchase now that I'm enjoing being barefooted?

(I read they are good for lift weight (and I want to go running with) )

But until I got money, I lift with Nike air force one, are they ok ?

I've been lifting in my Nike Free, and while they're great running shoes, and were pretty good for lifting, but as my weights have increased, they've become less stable. I just picked up a pair of Chuck Taylor's and today is my first go with them.
