I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

i dont recommend the free for lifting. no matter how much i tighten them up my feet are still loose in them. buy some rogue dowins, a little pricey but they pay for themselves. its worth it.

Just my thought on shoes:

Chuck taylors:

Pros:
Solid Built
Can Draw on them
Some how don't smell to bad....?
An old beat up pair is fashionable... works for me lol
Get very comfortable once broken in

Cons:
Take a while to dry off
Not good for sprints

My take: go barefoot. I only lift barefoot, and wouldn't want to switch to ANY shoe, except a weightlifting shoe for olympic lifts.

I feel the same way. I think lifting barefoot gives a good type of stability that not only helps you when lifting, but when doing other things.

I squat barefoot when i can.
Agree, barefoot feels much more stable and you can feel if your going to slip or if your heels are coming off the floor on a squat.
I always deadlift barefoot too (with socks on of course), despite the looks from fellow gym goers :x
Rere's training log
Goals for end 2010
Deadlift: 200kg
Squat: 160kg
Bench Press: 120kg
Press: 90kg

I don't understand what's so wrong about lifting barefoot. I too get some looks and one time one of the instructors told me I should put my shoes on because of the hygiene. Stupid.

Yeah i know what you mean lol
Not sure what would happen concerning hygiene, i do have my socks on, it just feels natural, gives you a stable surface to push from, let them look :x

Well there is a minute possibility of some foot borne germs that might cause an issue with others. So I can see when gyms would prefer folks to wear their shoes. Kind of like the sneeze shield at a salad bar. Some marginal level of prevention/protection. But it seems kind of silly that they aren't nearly as anal about sweat on equipment. Nice little signs asking people to wipe them down, but I've never seen any actually say anything to the primates who don't clean up after themselves. Maybe their workout is just that intense.

This morning a guy ran out of the gym and headed for the bathroom. He wears gloves, and when he came back his gloves were still on.

I'm wiping dow the oly bars first from now on.
