I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

These are the shoes I use:

Kung Fu shoes. The sole is about a quarter inch thick, and offers almost no cushioning.
You can get them at any Chinese/Asian grocery store. Expect to pay about $3.
At this price, you buy a pair to keep in your gym bag, locker, car, home gym, anywhere.
If anyone looks at you funny at the gym, give them a flying roundhouse kick to the face.

Fair choice in some ways. I have the rubber soled ones and the cotton soles. My only concern with the rubber soles is grip/traction while lifting. On some surfaces they slip really easily, like smooth concrete or tile when just slight amount of moisture. Dang near killed myself first time I wore them and came in through the dew on the grass to tile entryway. BANG! Like a elephant on butter. But they are incredibly comfortable and long lasting. Had mine for about 2 years. I would go with the cotton soles before rubber though.

I'm going for the Adidas IronWork III at http://www.powerzite.se/. Anyone used the IronWork III or bought something from PowerZite? I'm heading to Sweden near Stockholm soon so I'll drop by their store and pick them up.

I've never used weightlifting shoes, but I do have a lot of experience with Adidas shoes, and I can tell you that they tend to be a narrower fit than other brands.

Yeah, I've experienced that too, that's why I'll head to the store instead of ordering online.

I've been looking on Glenn Pendelays site and the vsa site. Can anyone recommend a good generally weightlifting shoe or stats? My current running shoes are flat , but lack stability and traction... its sorta like training on a slippery bed somedays. The Dowins on glenns site are nicely priced and seem to get good reviews.
the heel is 1.5 or 1.25 inch. ive heard it will really help support and keeping the back angled properly. Is this heel height standard or will it feel really weird?
I dont currently do snatching or any kind but it is a possibly in the next year or so.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts.

I've got a pair of Adidas Sambas which see to work pretty well for my needs. Only problem is, they are very squeaky.

i recommend the rogue dowins.

How do they fit usually? I'm about a 9 - 9.5 mens normally in regular shoes. However, I broke a a toe on one foot and I find tight shoes painful sometimes. Do they fit tighter in the toes?

Thanks for the replies all.

i typically wear an 11.5 in nikes, pumas, adidas, new balance. the dowins need to be a little snug cause you dont want your feet being loose in some shoes with x number of weight on you. so these i wear an 11, 1/2 size smaller. if you call rogue fitness they will recommend a half size smaller as well. do you were converse? i wear 11 in chucks and other than those the rogues are the only 11's i wear. there is room in the toes and you can make the sides snug with the straps. the heels also arent as huge as other shoes.

Chuck taylors run large, I can fit in to around a 12 and only wear 10.5 . I think they stretch out over time and start a size larger

The Rogue Do-Wins are awesome, I bought a pair form Glenn Pendlay a few weeks ago. I wear a size 10.5 2EE width new balance running shoe (with insoles) and size 10 street shoes (Pumas). My dress shoes are Euro size 43 which is the size of Rogues that Glen recommended. They fit perfectly.

I have a wide forefoot (2E) and the Rogues fit great. I have heard the Adidas can run narrow which would not work for me.

They make a noticible difference in back squatting versus the shoes I was using before (Pumas with flat soles, zero cushion). If you are coming from a running shoe it will be night and day difference.

I noticed a bigger differnece in front squats and overhead squats. I can hit rock bottom (thighs against hams) with a tight back which I couldn't do (had to flex back or lose balance) with my flat shoes/running shoes.

Highly recommend them. They are sturdy too, so if you only wear them while lifting they should last years and years. I wouldn't wear them walking around/driving to the gym/walking to the gym because they are not very comfortable to walk in (thick and stiff) but that is not what WL shoes are designed for.
