I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Shoulder Dislocations

I recently started trying to do shoulder dislocations. I dislocated my shoulder back in 2004, went to hospital and had it put back in. I didn't do any physio or anything afterwards though.

Anyway, I tried doing a set of 10, and I noticed on everyone my previously dislocated shoulder was popping. I could hear and feel it. As the reps went on, it seemed to get louder and more painful.

Should I avoid doing shoulder dislocations, is there another exercise I could do to help?

Thanks

I've had problems with my shoulder too, and I went to a physical therapist for a month.
What Ive learned is that the reason your shoulder is popping is because its unstable. You just need to strengthen the rotator cuff, not just actively stretching it with shouolder dislocations. Also when you put your arm over head, the joints are rubbing together and too much of that can cause tendonitis. That's what I have because I play baseball and pitch too much.

I'll try and see a physio about it then. In the meantime, should I continue with the shoulder dislocations or avoid them? What about lifts? I only really just started about 2 days ago, haven't worked out yet so I'm a bit worried I'll do further damage or I won't be able to lift anything because of one weak side.

I say stop doing them, they could aggrevate your problems. I don't do them because my left shoulder joint is unstable and easily slips.
