I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Shoulder Dislocations

Postby magikalcamel on Fri Nov 06, 2009 10:57 pm

I'm starting to do shoulder dislocations to work on my posture and flexibility. They're extremely hard to do even slowly, but I when I bring it to my back I can't maintain my full grip on the stick because my shoulders can't hold the stick with a backwards grip on my back side. Is this something I'll just have to half ass until i'm able to do it?

I forgot to mention I had a shoulder impingement about 4 years ago and got a "cortisone?" steroid shot for it, but didn't follow through on the physical therapy for it. I haven't had any problems with it for 3 years, but used to get inflammation when I would play sports involving a full throwing motion at full strength. (throwing a football as hard as I can, or serving in tennis) I have terrible posture from playing a lot of computer games in my past so been working on posture and shoulder flexibility.

Wow, thanks for sharing all that.

Just keep at the dislocations, I have severe impingement issues but the dislocates have managed to develop an incredible amount of flexibilty/ROM very quickly.

Try using a rope instead of a stick. You'll find it a little bit easier to dislocate your shoulders because your wrists are not restricted like when you use stick. As you gain more flexibility in shoulders, then go back to stick. Great exercise. Good luck.
