I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I know there was already a Home Gym thread but the forum switch completely botched it. So I'll start a new one.

Image

"Keys" brand power rack, 11 gauge steel, with pull-up bar and dip bars.
Nautilus bench, very sturdy, goes from decline to upright.
Olympic barbell.

Image

Extra barbell, too many weights with a weight tree.
Old stereo, lamp, training log, pipe for shoulder dl's.
also adjustable dumbbells not in picture.

And of course the abundance of junk my parents have yet to get rid of.

Total cost: $720

Pros of home gym: Too many to list, but a few are being able to workout barefoot (makes all lifts easier for me), workout whenever, can quit my crappy job at the gym.

Cons: Have to park my car outside now. :x

Overall, I would definitely recommend a home gym over a membership. Do a little searching on craigslist and you can find some good deals like I did.

Man that's a sweet set up. I plan on getting my home gym soon. I've set a deadline of July 1st to get all my equipment ordered and in the mail. I'll post pictures in a few months.

that is a perfect setup. looks like all i would buy for myself if i had my own house. i really cant see it in the pic but where are the dip bars? $720 is nothing compared to the benifits of working out at home. that for sure is sweet! now i got something to show my wife as an example. she is very pro home gym.

Yeah, home gym is the way to go. The dip bars are not set up in the picture, but you can kind of see the two holes in the safety catch where they insert.

bodycraft, I've got the same. Pros: cheap & can handle like 400kg. Cons: can't do oh press inside it (unless you're very small, I'm 5'8"), need extra outside uprights.

Hi all, here's my home setup. I've had the elliptical trainer since the beginning of the year. The rest of the weights stuff is only a few weeks old - I am really pleased with it!

Image

Tunturi C45 Elliptical Trainer - mostly used for 5 minute body warm-up before lifting. Incline abs board behind used rarely now.

Image

Desk with training schedule & dip attachments for power cage.

Image

Keys Fitness power cage, Olympic bar and Body-Solid flat bench.

Image

Rubber coated grip plates, A frame weight tree and Adidas AdiStar shoes.

Hi bigwhat62,

The weights are rubber coated but not bumper plates - I wouldn't trust these to be dropped from any great height! However, they are quieter and easier to handle than cast iron. I ordered them from http://www.worldofhealthandleisure.co.uk/olympicweightsrubber.htm

The rack is really good as it has bar hooks on both sides inside and outside hooks handy for OHP without having to clean the weight up. It's the same model as shown in sean's first post.

nice, i knew the racks looked the same. also, the weights i wouldnt try to bounce but since i would probably use a garage to workout i would want something like those as well. i have always liked weights with the handles like that too. thanks for the info.

The guy has atlas stone, clearly not a newbie. Train with him, you'd learn a ton!
