I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Starting stats are:
Age: 19
Height: 5'11
Weight: 145 pounds / 65KG

Goals for Easter (23/03/09):
- Hit 12 stone / 76KG whilst maintaining the same bodyfat.
- Squat 90KG 5x5
- Bench 80KG 5x5

I've not done much training previously, just a few weeks at the gym on and off without really knowing what I was doing. This time it's serious and I'm going to do everything to try and meet my goals. Big effort!

I'm going to weigh myself and take frontal photos every 2 weeks.

Workout #1 - 20/01/09
55KG - 5x5 Squats
52.5KG - 5x5 Bench Press
3xF Inverted Row
3xF Pushups
3x12 Reverse Crunch

(I won't count the number of reps for Inverted Rows/Pushups as there's no real need. Just going to failure each time.)

Good workout. Started a bit heavy really but I quite like the pain...

Workout #2 - 22/01/09
57.5KG - 5x5 Squats
40KG - 5x5 Military Press
60KG - 1x5 Deadlift
3xF Chinups
3x30s Prone Bridges

Squats were painful but I'm going to keep with it. I think my body is just needs to man-up and get used to the shock of squating 3 times a week. Deadlifts were suprisingly easy considering I've never done them before. I'm keeping the weight lower than I can manage to work on form. Overall it's going really good so far, the whole workout doesn't take long at all but it's INTENSE!

Wish me luck :)

You banged out 40kg military presses in your second session? I am just onto 40kg now after 4 weeks and struggling..... :)

Haha yep! Maybe I was a little bit keen for my first time doing it. I did start on 25kg but it felt easy so I shoved another 15kg on the bar. It was definately painful, I'm going to have a hard time going to 42.5 next session.

Do you keep a log?

Looks like we started at roughly the same so it would be good to see eachothers progress and keep eachother motivated :)

Workout #3 - 24/01/09
60KG - 5x5 Squats
55KG - 5x5 Bench Press
3xF Inverted Row
3xF Pushups
3x12 Reverse Crunch

Had a big pissup last night and only managed to get 4 hours sleep, so I was a bit lacking in energy today. Workout went OK considering! Managed to get through the squats fine, infact they seem to be getting easier each session. I'm guessing it's just beginner gains, I'm tempted to up it more than 2.5Kg but I'll stick with it. Bench was pretty hard today and it was a big sense of achievement when I managed to force out the last rep.

Nothing much else to say. I'm still managing to add weight every workout and it's going great.

Very wise - don't be in a hurry - the weight will soon stack up.

Workout #4 - 26/01/09
62.5KG - 5x5 Squats
42.5KG - 5x5 Military Press
62.5KG - 1x5 Deadlift
3xF Chinups
3x45s Prone Bridges

Grrr!

Every single thing was HARD but I struggled through it. Such a good feeling when I banged out the last reps, especially on the Military Press. I also realised how much I hate Deadlifts today... may look at replacing them with something else if that's possible?

Keep the deadlifts in and learn to love 'em! They're the real test of strength, so to speak :)

good work. keep record of your pushups and rows...you will want to be able to compare them from week to week. also it will help you decide when to add weight if you choose to.

Workout #6 - 30/01/09
67.5KG - 5x5 Squats
70KG - 1x5 Deadlift
45KG - 5x5 Military Press
3xF Chinups
3x45s Prone Bridges

Great workout. The military press was brutal. It took all of my energy to squeeze out the last rep but I did it :)

I'm still getting a bit of pain on the deadlifts, the best I can describe it is a "niggle" in my left lower back. It's almost like a muscle spasm. I'm strong enough (with good form) to lift the weight but I keep getting this pain after my set of deads. The only way I've found of relieving it is to hang from a pullup bar for about a minute. It's not stopping me training... but any ideas what it could be?

This means I've gained 8 pounds in 10 days!

Not put on much bodyfat either by the looks of it :)

This Press is it with the two feet together touching?
I might try these, maybe with less weight to start off with.

Yeah, feet together and no leg drive. I think it's a bit harder than the standard OHP so your weight might drop a little.
