I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hi, I'm just about to start the 5x5 program.

I'm 26, 183cm, 77Kg.
I play soccer every saturday and I'm planning on doing 5x5 every monday and wednesday.

I'm trying to build strength, lose a small amount of belly fat and get fitter and faster and eventually over 80kg.
My diet generally consists of very little refined carbs, rice, bread, pasta. I try to get my energy from vegatables and fruit and eat 6 meals a day so that I will burn some body fat.
I want to be on top form for my saturday matches and recover in time for my monday/wednesday lifting. I should probably carb load a bit more to give my body more energy. When should I do this?
The day before my match?
The day after my match?
The day of the match and straight afterwards?
All of the above?

I do this myself.

Eat a bowl of whole-grain pasta or brown rice 2 hours before kick-off.
This should give you enough sustainable energy for the match without being too full.

cheers
