I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Stiff knees after squats

Postby iCookie on Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:51 pm

My knees have been this way since I started squatting. Now I'm increasing the weight, and it's getting worse and worse.

The day after a heavy squat it's especially bad. If I do body-weight squats, I can feel that my knees are insanely stiff to the point where it hurts.

And sometimes when just standing up or walking around or whatever, I get a sudden sharp pain to the left of my kneecap on my left knee. This pain lasts for about 20 seconds then can go away for several hours before I feel it again...

What could this be??

I was having a similar problem with my left knee as well, It would stiffen up and be a little uncomfortable although not quite painful. I had a friend who knew what he was doing check my form and he told me I was basically doing a standing leg press (no hip drive whatsoever). I lowered my weight and then started squeezing my glutes to get out of the hole while keeping my knees shoved way out and so far so good. I have found that the discomfort has begun to subside and my squat just feels better. I hope this helps, but I'm sure if you post a video someone with more experience will critique it for you.
