I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Stretch Marks: Gross and Ugly / Don't care / Appreciate?

so.. what do you think? Stretch marks... What do you think when you see someone (male or female) with them.. arms, stomach, hips.. silver and faded or new and red...

...Are they a big flashing sign that yells "Look at me! My skin is all stretched from being fat and/or growth spurts, eww, I'm all scarred and hidiously deformed now!"

...Are they just a scar, like any other scar, that you don't really think much of.

...Or do you think they are cool, like a memento from someones life, telling a story, that kind of thing, as in some people appreciate scars because they are unique and define a persons character..

...Would you not date someone if they had them?

...Is there a threshold for how much is too much?

Pretty generic don't you think? Kinda like asking if you'd date someone with bad teeth. It kinda runs from slightly crooked to missing all but two (and those are black).

Would I date someone with them? Sure. I decide on if someone is worth dating well before I've gotten to the point of being able to see if they have stretch marks or not.

Really, things like stretch marks is not what decides if I date a girl or not personally. James pretty much said it.

Stretch marks are usually associated with pregnancy or fast weight gain/loss etc. Pretty natural, and a lot of people have them. Even young girls (I have dated girls with stretch marks, and this is in no way a deciding factor at any point).

I can't go as far as saying I appreciate them, but I generally think people are more aware of their own stretch marks than everybody else. This can dent their self confidence - and this "dent" is actually more damaging than the stretch marks themselves. In my opinion...

I'd date a fun girl with stretch marks any day, but I would hesitate more if she was extremely self concious about it and turned it into a problem of massive proportions. It's no big deal.

I've got some stretch marks on my legs/thighs because when I was younger (during growth stages) I was on corticosteroids for an illness I have. Though they're kind of annoying, I understand that they're beyond my control. But ultimately I think it's helped me to realize that physical imperfections in others (especially potential "ladyfriends") aren't a big deal.

When I played highschool football, we used to get them on our chest / arms from lifting. At the time they were like battle scars and almost desireable b/c it meant you were growing fast. I noticed they did fade away in time though.

My wife got them after having kids and was / is somewhat self consious aobut them. But to be honest, I don't even notice them and again, they pretty much fade after a while especially if you use the right cream on them. I think either vitamin E or aloe but can't remember.

I have them also. I consider them battle scars. I'm actually quite proud of them. They didn't come easy. Labor was a bitch and I'm just grateful to have survived the whole ordeal.

I have them too - both from developing quickly in adolesence and from a twin pregnancy. They have mostly faded and although I was self conscious about them initially, I now agree with goddess. I worked really hard during the pregnancy to have healthy kids (and I succeeded) and the stretch marks are just a visible sign of all that work :)

I actually asked a dermatologist about them and he said that only time helps them fade--despite what you may read on the internet, (aloe and/or vitamin E) creams usually don't really work.

Gross and Ugly / Don't care / Appreciate?

Postby greasygemo on Fri Apr 24, 2009 10:10 pm

yeah, mine are all faded now, silvery lines. I have them on my boobs, arms, hips and stomach.. puberty hit me hard. Sigh. I had them by the time i was 14. Thats what happens when you grow from a 13 year old flat chested 4 ft 9 female to C cup 5 ft 7 female in 2 years... shit. I was an awkward teen. :D

I dont care about stretch marks but I think cellulite is really gross.

If I tense my glutes my ass gets all dimply like cellulite, I hate it. Cannot wait to get a proper hard muscly ass.

Stretch marks don't bother me; had them since I was 15 or 16 or so and I started putting on loads of weight (as soon as I stopped playing sport at school, actually). I was self-concious back then because they were the red/pink variety, mainly on love handles and upper thighs, now they've faded and I often forget about them. Plus I'm married, so don't have to worry about them being unseemly to a new partner. they're my battle scars in my war on obesity ;) lol

On women, I would rate stretch marks equally with a c-section scar; noting that she prolly gave birth at some time.

The only time it was creepy was when, a long time ago (if you are reading this honey...) I was at a bachlour party and this stripper danced in front of each guy and her c-section scar was quite visible. All I could think of was her kissing her hubby and one-year old saying "Mommy has to go to work now".

I have that too Dr. John

I remember waking up one day and looking in the mirror at my stomach and thinking to myself, "what the fuck is going on here"
