I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Stronglifts Advance question

Hey guys, got a question- I started Stronglifts advance- bench version this week, and noticed that turkish get ups are on the list. Now I know what a TGU is I am just really accident prone and fear dropping the weight on my face. Is there anything I could replace it with or should I just suck it up and do the TGU?

Thanks in advance,
Mwilli

Hold the weight by the handles? I don't think you're ever supposed to do them differently unless you're just holding a bottle or something, since getting a 20lbs dumbbell on your face can leave a serious mark!

I'm pretty sure that if I did SL Advance then I'd substitute TGU for something else because I absolutely hate them, but I don't know what I would do. Maybe dragon flag progressions?

Article on T-nation about TGUs. I'd recommend reading it before you start thinking about removing it from your routine.

Thanks for the replies, I have read the article on T-Nation it is the only reason I know what a TGU is, and the 5 step video progression about how to do them correctly is what make me think I am more likely to drop a weight on my head then knock out 3x5 sets of them correctly. I was hoping that someone with more knowledge than myself would know if leaving them out/ substituting them would kill the routine, or what to even substitute for them.

- It is a killer article though, the guy doing a TGU with the loaded bar is hardcore.

Thanks guys,
Mwilli
