I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. :lol: But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Stronglifts Olympics

We have plenty of individual challenges and races in this part of the forum, but I thought a team competition would be fun too.

In order to honour the international flavour of the forum, I propose we form national teams. Team members will post their bodyweight, squat, bench, dead and totals, and on a predetermined end date (31st December 2009?) these will then be averaged (so teams do not need to be limited in number). We could then if we chose apply the Wilks coefficient to make up for bodyweight differences.

To enter, make a post with your desired team and your stats, using the following format (cut and paste the code):
Code: Select all
your name here ■  BWkg ■ (Squatkg + Benchkg + Deadkg) ■ Totalkg

Rules:
 • National or regional teams, membership is by self-selection (so if you live elsewhere from your country of birth you can chose who to represent)
 • Team members will post bodyweight/squat/bench/deadlift/total. Each team's numbers will then be averaged.
 • Should we then apply the Wilks coefficient?
 • Winner would be the team with highest average total, or highest Wilks score.
 • Competition will start on 1 August, 2009
 • Competition will end on 31 December, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Results as of 23/10/2009:

GOLD AUS 287.07
SILVER US 276.64
BRONZE EU 265.28
4th CAN 253.91
5th UK 251.44
6th NZ 233.95
7th AFRICA 211.37
8th ASIA 197.99

Team members and their stats can be viewed here: Stronglifts Olympics Leaderboard.

Great idea! Maybe we need a minimum number of people for each team to make the averages more 'average'?

yeah, that's I thought we should combine some of the countries. Ideally, the teams would be reasonably similar in size, but if someone wants to compete for a country by themselves, I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to.

One thing about the averaging of the results. It will discourage people with more modest stats from joining. Maybe we could do the average of the best 5 from that region or best 10. That way we would have people competing to make their team too. It seems unfair that a team is penalised because someone new decides to join them.

hmmm...what about total increases from a certain time? I guess that'd be too hard/complicated...

It's a great idea Mjh. Let's not waste time discussing this people. Easier to fix things once it runs than to theoretize beforehand. Plans are never fail-proof anyway. So let's get started.

I'm ok with the continent split
* USA
* Canada
* UK
* Australia
* NZ (or join with Australia if not enoug participitants, but I think I know how you'd feel about this ;))
* EU continental
* Asia/India
* South America
* Africa

I'm joining EU.

We can split EU later on if there are enough participitants. You can get an idea based on visitor sources here: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/http%3A%2 ... fts.com%2F

I'm interested in joining the UK. Whether I'm good enough to make the team is another matter.

This is a good point. But I think it will prove to be moot, as people with modest stats will self-select themselves out. The average of the top 10 is a good idea. I guess it's best to wait and see what kind of numbers we get.

Also, it's all in fun, so I would like to see anyone who wants to participating, not worrying too much about how their stats will affect the average. The spirit of the games and all that.

good on you namaste. You don't have to anything special except post your lifts in this thread once the competition is underway.
