I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Stronglifts problem

Postby craigi0 on Mon Nov 02, 2009 5:35 pm

Hi everyone,

I am facing a problem. I am doing stronglifts now about a year. I had to stop during the first few months due to some stuff at home. However I am now back doing SL 5x5 the past 3 months and am really enjoying it and enjoying making gains. Age 22, BW 95kg, Squat 110kg 5x5, Deadlift 120 kg 1 x 5, Bench 82.5kg 5x5, OHP 60kg 5x5. I have a problem now though. I was working out in my apartment but I have since moved out and back home to my parents house. I started to go to a pay as you go gym as I only have a 5ft bar and 80kg at home. I am now saving for a powerrack and 7ft bar with new weights. I am moving to a new house which I will have enough space for a rack.

Back to my problem, there isnt a gym where i can do SL near my new house and until I get my new equipment I'm stuck with 80 kg. I was just wondering what should I do regarding workouts? Should I focus on compound lifts with added reps and maybe isolation exercises? As I will probably lose muscle mass I have decided to clean up my diet to lower BF. not sure what it is now but the is a flab blanket covering my abs.

Has anyone any suggestions as to how I shouls train?

Thanks everyone- i spend at least 1 hour per day on this website. It is great to be apart of this community.

Don't go with isolation exercises.
There is nothing they can do as long as you are still able to advance using compound exercises.

What are your current stats ?
Added reps is an alternative, so is switching to a more difficult version of the exercises.

Back squat: go to box squat and/or front squat. Even overhead squat.
Deadlift: this may sound crazy ... one handed deadlift. Will take you a while to get that with 80kg for each hand ;)
Bench press: floor press. Or add chains onto the bar to add resistance.
OHP: your not pushing 80kg there yet, I am quite sure :)
I prefer to be called 'H' ;)

Age: 41 / Height: 180cm/5ft 11" / BW: 88kg/194lbs
PRs:
SQ: 3RM: 147.5kg/324.5lbs 1RM:155kg / FP 3RM: 77.5kg/170.5lbs / OHP 5RM: 52.5kg/115.5lbs / BBR 3RM: 92.5kg/203.5lbs
DL 5RM: 167.5kg/368.5lbs 1RM: 200kg/440lbs
