I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Caught my little finger on the edge of the hook while unracking the fully loaded bar (142.5kg) on it

Skin came clean off the top just below the knuckle, wierdly I didnt even feel a cut just a bit of weight on my finger and then looked and saw this huge chunk of skin completely comming off.

Result? Lots of blood. Hope I can manage without a finger on next workouts deadlift.

To add injury to insult, I didnt even get my 3x5. I guess I was struggling, lost tension somewhere and had to widen arms to compensate. I went on to do my bench however, and use the finger as an excuse to deload and do things strickly Dave T style!

No pullups today though because I'm not quite man enough under the circumstances. :D

Ouch! I've had that happen before so you're not the first. Heal quick.

What the hell? You mean you lost the part of the finger below the knuckle? I'm hoping my knowledge of English is at fault here

Edit: Reading James' reply above, probably not. Still, have a speedy recovery.

You ripped it off racking or unracking the bar? I've hit the uprights with my fingers before when racking the bar, but it was never too terrible: just a small gash.

My gym's rack pins form an edge at the bottom. The shape is like a corner of a square, and the bar goes in there. Anyway, I was once doing hang snatches inside the rack and smashed my finger into the edge of one of the pins on the way up. Made a nice little gash.

Caught it under that while unracking. The hook edges are narrow, welded on and nearly razorsharp. I really think I could have taken my WHOLE finger off on the danm thing. I guess I'm lifting above specifications with this rack!!! To come to think of it, I must have been so close and was really lucky and reacted in time. I already nearly lost my other little finger on my other hand last year already sigh.

I think its dodgy figuring out where your particular hook is on this rack, and then where to manoeuvre the bar and where you fingers are while getting under the bar??
