I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Thanks Buff - unsure what our exact plans are at the moment - it will be our first time in NYC - if we struggle to find things to do then a trip to Niagara would be good. Although someone said there were a few clothes shops in New York so Mrs Mouse will no doubt be getting me to carry bags of shopping around

Nice one mouse. Knew it wouldn't be long before you were back into it. :D Good luck with the 190 DL challenge BTW.

Friday 12 June 09
Squats - 105kg 5x5
Press - 42.5kg 3x5
DL - 150kg 1x5 100kg 3x5
Chins - 0

Squats - feeling good with these. Set 2 was a box squat.
Press - got a good groove going with these tonight - hopefully I can find it again.
DL - warm up sets I tried out a hook grip - felt solid but my thumbs knew about it.
I like 150 as a DL weight - just feels right. 100's to make up for no chins.
Chins - skipped these - going to put some gtg effort in tomorrow and Sunday.

Didn't want to WO out tonight and considered putting off until tomorrow - turned out to be a great session.

 There are just a FEW clothing shops in NYC. I am sure Mrs. Mouse will be able to find something to her liking! Probably quite a few things so maybe you should work on that exercise...farmer's walk I think it's called. That would most simulate heavy shopping bag carrying!

Seriously, if you need any help w/planning, I only live 45 mins from Manhatten. Nice workout today too. What did you think about the box squats at that weight in comparison with the regular back squat?

That... that is the true definition of functional training!
Kathy, you're a genius, I'll get started on these right away!

Mouse:
How do you like the hook grip? Never tried it cause my monkey hands have never had problems gripping, rather letting go again. Regarding grease the groove, you are aware that it's usually done in addition to your normal training or done every single day?

Love your signature btw!

@Kathy - thanks for the offer - may just take you up on that when we get some more idea of when/how long we'll be visiting for.
Box squats are great - good reminder of depth every now and then - the weight is not too heavy to be too challenging though.

@NoGood - hook grip was really solid. Felt it most when the bar came back in contact with the floor in the thumbs - going to try and use it for the heavier warm up sets and see how it goes. Work set still with mixed grip although I alternated it with each rep - easier to squeeze the bar without the hook grip - but i'm sure that will come with practice.
Chins/Pulls - yeah I have a love/hate relationship with these - just out of sync with doing them and needing some extra boost to get then going again - I did some last night but not enough to warrant logging!

Since you're dabbling in box squats, what is your height and box height, Mouse?

Left out the curls tonight as I couldn't wait any longer to put MY RACK TOGETHER - yeah!!
Squats starting to feel tough - hoping to find them better next week now the rack is together and I don't have to mess about getting the weight onto my shoulders.
Press still feels good, but I think Rows are going to be the death of me!

 Anyway:

Hi Mouse

Does your Bodymax CF375 include a wide-grip/narrow-grip bar like this one?

Hey Mouse, just catching up. Good lifting man. I'm in on the 190 kg Single. How much time left for that one?

Have fun in New York City. Beautiful place to visit, wouldn't want to live there though.

Kinster - my rack just has a straight bar for pulls and chins.
But that one looks good - it will let you vary your grip more.
It's similar to Willie's rack shown on this page.

Monday 15 June 09
Squats - 107.5kg 5x5
Bench - 62.5 5x5
Dips - 10kg 5/5/1
TGU - 10kg 3x5 L/R

Squats - solid first 4 sets. Last set used the box but a bit higher - only a couple of inches - messed up my form a bit - should have kept it at the lower height - felt odd not to go as deep.
Press - ok.
Dips - just ran out of juice on the last set.
TGU -

Been watching the Twenty20 late at night and think the lack of sleep it catching up with me - must get to bed earlier!
Good WO though - shame about the result for England.

They're still in much better shape than India.

Cool workout. Good you could finish the TGUs after running out of gas on the dips. Why the idea of adding a box suddenly on the last set?
