I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

The squat, press, deadlift, and bench press have been used for decades by the strongest athletes on the planet. There is good reason for that. Any program that doesn’t use them is inferior to one that does.

Came in here looking for a workout to comment on. All I see is a bunch of nattering ;)
Watch out in Rere's gym, Kinster. Minimum requirement there is a pair of steel ones in the bag.
Good luck on the 160, Mouse. When you post it here, make sure to type LOUD so us old folk can hear you.
Now get off my lawn.

Monday 22 June 09
Squats - 115kg 5x5
Press - 47.5 3x5
DL - 160kg 3/2
Chins - BW 3x3

Squats - owing to missing Fridays WO - 112.5 - I just went for these. Felt a lot better than last time round.
Press - flew up - something must be wrong here after 45 seeming heavy.
DL - the curse of KIB (see above post) left my DL mojo in tatters. Lost all tightness in my back on the 4th rep so stood up, walked about a bit and then did the last 2 which went up surprisingly well. Will have to get these on Friday now.
Chins - :|

Despite the DL fiasco - not a bad WO

What fiasco ?
You got 5 reps in total. You just need to get them all in succession now.

Good WO ! ;)

Fiasco comes from having done 1x5 at this weight before.
When studying for a possible reason, the only thing I can see is needing more sleep.
Food has been good but have had a lot of late nights recently.

Not that going to see Neil Young at the Nottingham Arena tonight is going to get me to bed before 0100 earliest - but will be worth it.

Cheers for dropping in on my log. Seems you're blasting away at that DL - I'm sure it'll be all 5 reps next time. Loved the DL vid - I know that feeling!

Neil Young? But you don't look like a hippy.

Deadlift is a cruel mistress. The same thing happens to me occasionally, I go for a weight that I normally get 5 with and it won't budge. I don't know why this happens, I find getting pissed off and taking it out on people around me helps.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315 (on a good day)
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up

DL - the curse of KIB

When studying for a possible reason, the only thing I can see is needing more sleep.

Hey, look: either it's me that's messing you up or it isn't ;)
just that H is so old

Must have been that other Mouse who was talking smack about us 41-year-olds, huh?
Good job on the 160s. Two sets will become one soon. Get a high-volume pyramid in there before the next attempt, then rest over a weekend, eat up and attack 'em. You've basically already got 'em. Go!

Haha - cheers Jim !
Been a big fan for a long time - but then I have a quite a wide taste in music terms.
Fantastic time last night - he played some absolute classics - looks like he's headlining Glastonbury as well as having done the Isle of Wight.

DL - I know what you mean - it'll come

Mouse-

Every once in while you gotta stain the "tighty whities" to get a good pull on the Deads....

Now let's see you give it all you've got...

Thursday 25 June 09
Squats - 117.5kg 5x5
Bench - 67.5kg 5/5/4/3/3
Dips - BW 10/8/6
Reverse Dips - BW 8/10/12

Squats - hard going tonight - definately lack of sleep taking its toll - sets 2, 3 and 4 were slow tough reps - set 5 flew up. Need to make the effort to get to bed earlier - so much to do and not enough time !!
Bench - still messing about with form a bit on this - struggle from start to finish - great fun.
Dips - so so.
Reverse Dips - inspired by PG's new routine extravaganza - I like them.

Nice
