I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

What a great pic, Mouse!! Geez, Jimmy Marku is HUGE

Your son is too cute - how old is he? And I'll be looking for more pics of the comp. under the Off Topic area. I've never been to one of these so I'm looking forward to seeing what it was like.

Happy belated birthday, btw.

Little Mouse is 5 next month.

Comp was great - although I felt as though I was a 6 stone weakling with all those big guys about - some pics posted in the thread here.

Jimmy didn't do so well in the end but his 14 reps on the 265kg Axle Squat was a sight to behold

I'm with you on that one Mouse. About 5 or 6 of these 20+ stone blokes knocked out maybe 3 or 4 reps. One bloke's eyes nearly popped out on his 3rd rep and another chap nearly cut his own head off after a failed attempt. Then Jimmy sets up and makes it look easy. It looked like he was warming up. No joke; it sent shivers down my spine - I was that effected by it all that I simply had to go and grab another guinness. :D

Good seeing you mate yesterday and thanks for the support on my log.

Cheers

Dave

Wish I had noticed that other thread, I would have been up for that.
I'm going to the "Staffordshires Strongest Man" event on the 25th of July in Leek though, my mate is competing in this one, he just came 4th in the Manchester show.
http://www.ukstrongman-north.co.uk/html/results.html

he was telling me he passed out on the shield carry as he held it wrong, these guys are pretty bonkers.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315 (on a good day)
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up

Monday 06 July 09
Squats - 125kg 3x3
Press - 50kg 5/4/3 40kg 3x5
DL - 150kg 3x5
Chins - BW 3x4

Went to the local rugby club gym tonight as I had a free pass.
Should've stayed at home.
Although it was quiet, I spent most of my time searching for the right plates which were scattered all over.
Well stocked, 2 squat racks, a cage, several benches, about 8 or 10 oly bars and a multitude of plates as well as machines and the hamster cardio stuff.
Wasn't sure I was able to use chalk as there was no sign of it on any of the bars - there was by the time i'd left
None of the plates fit snugly onto the bars as mine at home do which made the DL an interesting fun event.
Mirrors - what is all that about - definately put me off my squats .
The 2 bicep boys stopped to watch me DL like they'd never seen it done before - mind you I looked impressive with my best red socks on.

Home WOs from now on I feel - a shame really as with a bit of planning and effort it could be a good gym.

Great write-up of the comp in that thread, Mouse. Thanks for posting all that. What a display of strength! I'm humbled to see people OHPing more than my heaviest DL...
DL - 150kg 3x5

 That is awesome, man. Great stuff.
Strange that your trip to the pro gym turned out to be so... typical. Gyms are weird, mate. Even in this community-minded location we get boys leaving their plates all over the place, including on the bar. The plate rack has clearly labeled numbers for what plates go where, but the 2.5s always end up behind a pile of 15s. You don't have a mix of kg and lb plates, do you? That's another pleasure we have here. Canada supposedly switched to metric many years ago, but don't tell the citizens...
A few more pairs of red socks would straighten things out around here.

When are you off to NYC?

Fly out on Tuesday 21 July and fly back on Saturday 25 July. Get into Heathrow on the Sunday morning and then have to pick up Little Mouse from our friends.

You still on for August?

thanks for posting the pics of the strongman event. Little Mouse will treasure that photo I'm sure, but I bet he thinks his old man is a bit of a superman too. I need to get my research hat on and find out if/when there's an NZ strongman event.

cheers Mouse. I think that forum belongs to the gym bluestreak goes to. The last few years NZSM has been part of a wider event called Big Boys Toys... a combination car/boat/bike/gadget show for men who like their toys. A bit of a shame if you just want to see the strongman (I'm not really a car/boat/bike kind of bloke), but it's great they get the funding and support.
