I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

However we are on the internet, and when people start to exaggerate who would know the difference. For example i could change my lifting stats to whatever i want and act like a professional powerlifter under the guise of the computer.

asking for a picture is hardly forensic evidence, but its just a little verification that the poster isnt pulling shit out of their ass.

and thanks mehdi for the encouragement.

Understand where you are coming from. Sorry for being as ass :D

Good luck with getting cheese grater abs (unflexed)!

just remember that losing body fat is only half the battle! You need to have bigger abs so that they show all the time.
Male, 18, 5'8", 167lb
5x5 (lb) : Squat 300; Bench 190; OHP 145; DL 300+
Summer Goals:
Squat 410lbs
Clean 210lbs
Need more weights/new bar/divorce papers for my wallet... >.>

Person to person and age group to age group. When you start getting into your early to mid 30s and beyond, it gets harder and harder to lose the body fat. Some people are luckier than others in the genetic sweepstakes and don't have as much of a tough time with it, but prepare to have to work harder at it when you get to 30+ :) It's a pain in the ass, but the challenge is always fun!

stresscheese,

I used to wonder about the exact point you bring up. This is how I figure it; look at the picture of that jacked guy in the first or second response. What's the idea of that picture? The idea is for that guy to look as ripped as possible. That's the point of that picture. It's supposed to impress. Now what's more impressive; a guy who's flexing, or one who's not? It doesn't matter how ripped you are unflexed, you'll obviously look more jacked if you're flexing. Whenever you see a picture of a guy (like the aforementioned pretty boy), you can safely assume he's flexing.

and that he's done a quick workout immediately before to pump his muscles up. and that he's wearing makeup applied by a professional, lit and staged by a professional photographer, and finally airbrushed/photoshopped, also by a professional. He spends a lot of time practising poses that flex and show off his muscles (the hunched over abs pose), and probably has a workout/nutrition regime so strict that it can only be maintained by a full-time model/bodybuilder.

yeah, I'm known as a cynical guy.

Those photos are not just taken on any random day...Most of the guys you see in magazines know the photo shoot is coming up and they prepare for it! Super lean diet for the days leading up to the shoot, water deprivation, strategic tanning applied with body spray, extra spray added to enchance 'shadows', pump up exercise just before the shoot, etc.

That is before you even considering photoshopping...

I'd guess it is a very rare (and genetically blessed) man who has a 'popping six pack' unflexed every day of the week, if such even exists.

BUT...I'm still gonna try...lol

proper diet, large muscle exercise daily 20 min ab work every other day

thanks guys esp. especially bramasole and mjh, this is the kind of answer i was looking for/pondering. I guess it would make sense to look as ripped as possible before the photo shoot, so none of those things seem out of the question.

i guess its pretty safe to say the average joe whose workout routine consists of pushups and crunches unlikely to have an unflexed six pack? This is more of an impressive feat than a regular occurence?

I don't think it's as cynical as it is correct!
