I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hope this is the right place for this, if not, can one of the mods move it.

What do you guys and gals do about water bottles and the gym? Do you take the same bottle and just top it up, or do you take a fresh one for each trip? If you use the same bottle and top it up, do you have to clean it at all? and if so, with what? The reason I'm asking is that I normally take a 500ml bottle and top it up from the water fountain in the gym, but this morning I caught a whiff of the empty bottle and it stank! went straight in the bin I can tell you. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I use a 75cl spa bottle. I don't clean it, refill it every time I go. Once in a while a bottle disappears so I get a new one.
If you like to have a "real" bottle, I've read Nalgene makes good ones.
I'd rather be the quick fox than the lazy dog.

Hey willie, I reuse my bottle all the time, but then I also drink from it at work, so using it every day. I have noticed that if you leave the cap on when its empty, it can go pretty rank very quickly, so if you can, leave the lid off and it should last longer.

Buy a bigger water bottle, like a 1.5litre one. Thats what i have. You can replace it every few months/weeks if you want.
Stats:
Bench: 97kg
Squat: 112kg
Deadlift: 117kg
OHP: 55kg
Dips: 40kg
Pull-ups: 22kg

The deadlift is not dead; size is dead without it.

I prefer metal over plastic because they don't get funky like plastic does. Whatever you do, be sure to get a bottle with a wide mouth opening so that it's easy to clean!

Just a thought to help keep them clean get baby bottle sterilising fluid. Cheap at the price and will help keep it clean. I use it all the time for my hiking water bags that are hard to clean inside.
For the gym I buy a crate of bottled water and replace the bottle every week or so. Keeps it clean and fresh.

Soaking in Vinegar helps with the smell. Dishwasher-safe water bottles are better.

I've got about 8 or 10 of these chug bottles in two sizes:

http://www.buythecase.net/product/16189 ... tle_20_oz/

I take one to work with milk/protien powder to drink before workout. Another one for water. The kids each take one to soccer, wife takes one to the gym, etc. There's always one or two in the diswasher every night, so there's always a fresh and sterilized one available available. Just make sure you don't loose the sealing ring or the top will leak.

Target had them on sale for around $2.50 so I loaded up.

I just use a Rubbermaid 32oz bottle. It's dishwasher safe, so it gets washed 2-3x/week.
