I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

weight gain question

Hey guys, im new to the stronglifts boards and have found all of the information posted to be very helpful and all the success stories from people like Bluestreak really insipiring!
i recently decided that i was a bit too skinny and thought it was time to try put on some weight.
i started up on the GOMAD diet yesterday and didnt have too much trouble finishing the whole gallon throughout the day.
i was just wondering how long it usually takes before you start seeing results, i know im being naive to be expecting results on the first day but i weighed myself this morning and id lost a pound instead of putting anything on which was quite funny lol :P

im currently around 5ft 10 and 160 pounds.

i wouldn't exactly consider myself weak for my size Ive been going to the gym for a few months nothing serious but just trying to get bigger. i can bench 60kg for about 10 reps which isn't too bad, haven't had much experience with squatting so will have to experiment and see what kind of weight i am capable of.
i think its time for me to start the 5x5 program and really focus on building myself up properly.
i had a few questions regarding what weight i should start at for each exercise. bearing in mind my bench isn't that low so don't exactly want to start on the bar or with just 5kg each side as it wont be very beneficial.
also i do aggressive rollerblading quite bit which burns alot of calories and was wondering if i should be eating more to compensate for that and if it was a good idea not to drink so much milk on those says that i skate to avoid making myself throw up haha!.. orrr skate less for a few weeks until i put on a good amount of weight?
hopefully someone can help with a few of my questions, thanks! :)

Welcome to SL Trip. Im pretty much a newbie here myself. However I have been involved with some form of weight training for the last 20 years. So my recommendation to you would be to simply start out as explained in the E-book. Even though you think 5kgs on each side is not beneficial it will give you much practice to fine tune your form before you start lifting serious weight. And besides that, consider you wont be on light weights for long. You will add 7.5 kgs per week!!! I am one of those that could have started with a higher starting weight but for the sake of good form and having a nice steady progression I decided to run with it just as laid out in the E-book. That way you are sure not to 'miss anything' either. You have only been going to the gym for a few months so your knowledge ( and I mean no disrespect ) would I guess be fairly limited. Read through the entire manual. Read ppl's success stories here and you will see it works.Well thats my 2 bob for what its worth. And remember...this is not a sprint...enjoy the journey.

I am your height and I weighed the same last year. Now just my lean mass outweighs you by 5 pounds. EAT. If you don't start gaining, eat more. I've put on 28 lbs of muscle in ten months. Don't fear fat gains, and just charge ahead. GOMAD is a good start. And don't be afraid to start light. After six months you are probably not that advanced. I trained for four years and my lifts are finally starting to climb after finding this site in January. I am still considered a Novice by strength standards, so you are almost certainly one as well. Good luck.
