I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

When you say powerlifters and oly lifters do you mean trainees or people who actually compete? Wendler seems to really like leg lifts. You shouldn't necessarily do what they do though.

I would try a bunch of stuff but give it time to work first. I'm fond of the ab roller, planks, and leg lifts right now.

This Singaporean Olympic lifter has a training blog & youtube channel:

http://www.getstrongsingapore.com/blog/

You can have a look at some of the stuff him and the other people he trains with do. A large part of the core stability seems to be from broken down isolations of olympic lifts. Things like "snatch balance" to work on core & shoulder stabilty in an isometric fashion. Plus old fashioned weighted sit up variants. Rippetoe put a type of sit up in starting strength, a type using a roman chair type apparatus where you are suspended from your hip with nothing to lean on.

If you are after more technical & innovative core stability training a good place to look is dieselcrew:

thanks guys and i meant what i meant to say was what kind of exercises are the best for core strength. i just imagined that power lifters and especially olympic lifters would have good core strength so i used them as examples. :)

some powerlifters do ab work, some don't. usually the old school powerlifters would do situps & leg raises, if they did anything at all. some did hypers & such for the lower back. someone once asked bill kazmaier what he did for his abs, his reply was squats & deadlifts.

i'm not as familiar with oly lifters but i don't think the bulgarians & greeks do, they stick to the lifts. but i think the chinese & russians like having more variety so they may do some 'core' stuff.
