I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

What does everybody do while they are resting in between sets, particularly during squats?
Every time I'm resting in between sets, I feel like sitting down and not moving. Is that bad, or are you supposed to stand up and walk around to keep the blood flowing?

Stand up and lean on something. Whilst breathing heaviy. Or maybe i'll sit down as it get's heavy.

Or if it gets really heavy then i'll lie down. ;)

Don't think it really matters mate, just breathe.

I already understand how long to rest in between sets, I was just wondering if its bad to sit down the whole rest period

In the thread some people talk about how they like to pass the time...and no, it's not bad to sit down, in fact if you can no longer stand it's probably a good sign that you've been squatting hard

... but if you keep moving, it will be easier for the body to pump blood around your body, contra sitting down. Try with some jumping jacks! ;)

Personally, I try to breathe through every orifice in my body while hanging desperately onto the squat rack for dear life, the river of sweat pouring off my body as I chug down some more water.

I workout with a training partner, and spot her while resting between sets.

If I am alone I try really hard not to notice anything going on around me to keep my concentration.

On max effort days, I take more time between sets than I otherwise would (4-7 minutes). I have a large cup of tea with me in the garage, and about halfway into a rest period, I may have a sip or three of tea while I think about form cues and stay focused. My wife refers to my max effort days as "tea sippin' days", which makes them sound a lot more dainty than I would like. On other days, there just isn't time between sets and catching my breath.

For squats, OHP, deadlift etc I tend to just stalk around the power rack until the heartbeat gets back to normal. For bench I just sit on the bench to ready to go again. But like @Barry06GT I try and keep my concentration and also visualise the next set.

I like to drink water, pace around and watch other people doing sillier thangs than me

I sit down and catch my breath and watch the stopwatch ticking away the seconds until the next set. i also take my pulse sometimes to count the beats. Suck down some water if i need it.

Ok, so i guess most of you don't sit down a whole lot then. Im going to try pacing around while sipping water and just hang on to the squat rack

I walk around, as I feel it helps with the next set. I'm using light weights though, so maybe I'll just be sitting in a couple of months :D
