I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

What do you eat for breakfast?

Postby GSDog on Sun Nov 01, 2009 4:44 pm

As title.

I usually eat eggs, either boiled, scrambled or in an omelet but I'm quickly getting bored of eating them every morning and sometimes they make me feel sick. I tried eating oats/porridge but I seem to find it hard to digest and it makes me feel full for hours, which isn't good when I'm trying to gain weight.
I've looked at cereals but they are usually low in protein and high in sugar (most are 6-7g protein and 15-20g sugar!).
I'm not really sure what else there is to eat in the mornings because I usually wake up with not much of an appetite. Ideally I need something high in calories and protein but that won't make me feel full for hours.

I also don't like eggs. I'm not sure anyone does. I eat them anyway, usually every other morning so as not to grow too disgusted with them. I cook them over easy and eat them with sausage/bacon and some kind of toast. The runny yolk makes them a lot more palatable, imo.

If I'm running late, I just throw some pre-grilled burgers in the microwave. Easy calories. I guess you could always go the protein shake route as well.

My favorite breakfast lately is just plain yogurt, with fruit (usually berries, sometimes a sliced up apple), and maybe nuts. Very easy, nutritious, and inexpensive. Raisins work pretty well in this also, although they are much more calorie dense than fresh fruit.

I really love eggs, but they are kinda heavy and I don't like to eat them if I have to get going right away. Usually I have them for a more leisurely Sunday breakfast or something.

Beans on toast with fried eggs on top. About 6g protein per slice of bread, 7-8g per egg, and i'm not sure how much from the beans, but this is a great way to get eggs and protein down in the morning.

Like you I mostly eat eggs, but usually scrambled in a wrap. I also get very rapidly bored with them unless I do something to change the taste a bit. My usual modifiers are Tomato pickle, spicy salsa or chilli relish, but will occasisionally make do with just pepper or a bit of cheese.

Other (rarer) breakfast alternatives have previously included
- Pint or so of full fat milk (when in a hurry)
- Tuna wraps (I can't handle tuna first thing in the morning though)
- Bacon butty
- Full English fry up

If you get one of those kippers-in-a-bag deals from the supermarket it's usually 2 or 3 fillets in the bag and adds up to about 500 to 550 calories and 38 or 40g protein. Whole breakfast in itself for me - you could add a couple of slices of bread or whatever - and it only takes 3 minutes in the microwave.

How about sausage, bacon, beans and tomatoes?

I have grown bored of boiled eggs too, but I really enjoy omelettes with bacon, onion, mushrooms, etc.

So I have eggs in some form in gym days and cereals (real cereals, not crap - nuts, oats, raisins, dried fruit, etc) with milk on the other days. It might take some searching but you can find real cereals, without added sugar.

Most frequent breakfast is 2 eggs (scrambled), 2 slices toast, spinach/broccoli, maybe some cheese, tea & a banana.

If I get up earlier than usual I have some porridge/muesli first, then eggs & toast a while after. The porridge will contain linseed & dried fruit.

I have my supps for the day too which is 2x400iu Vitamin D and 1x1000mg Glucosamine. Have fish oil every few days too.

I usually have:

4 Poached eggs - haven't seen anybody else eating these, although they are sort of similar to boiled.
Banana
Fish Oil
Milk
Green Tea.

I would like to have some cooked spinach with the eggs, but it would probably take me 30+ minutes to eat
