I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I really like this site because of its reliable information. This reliability is enhanced by the straightforward and no nonsense tone Mehdi is using. But I keep in mind that all this is an interpretation of Mehdi and that you should always be on the quest for your own knowledge, rather than being bound to the rules of the knowledge of others. It makes Mehdi and his point of view even more trustworthy that he encourages this process. In this light, this site is like a jumping platform, a birds nest to fly from and I guess this is exactly what Mehdi's persues. No wonder he makes the connection between strength training and life. So thanks Mehdi for helping me and many others to develop ourselves significantly in the right direction.

That being said, I'd like to know Mehdi: what is you stake in all this? I can't believe that all this is just a charity thing. Your goals have always stayed unclear.

Yeah I totally agree with the other posters here - after you spend a while on the Internet you get a sort of bullshit-detection meter and this site passed it with ease. The information was clear, insightful, easy to get an overview, an easy read and always well illustrated. Ive also read around a lot on different pages and most others are rarely as to the point as stronglifts nor do they seem to give as good information. Also what I like about the site is how complete it is, any question I've had so far I've been able to get an answer to just by looking at various articles/previously posted topics on the forums. Great work by Medhi and the regulars on the forum!

Ive only just joined this forum recently and started stronglifts 3 weeks ago. I like the no BS attitude etc and the forum is full of like minded and helpfull people. I heard about this program/site from the forum of the supplement company i use, myprotein.co.uk (figured id mention it since your also advertising it on here:P) everyone on that forum basically uses this program/website as a "Training Bible" and They all get results from it.
Since changing to my home gym power rack etc, i thought i would try SL, previous gym was a joke, couldn't deadlift or squat...
They only had a legpress machine that went to 140kg..a joke. And i got wrong for using the dip station as a squat rack(lol:P), so was limited to power cleaning and front squatting.

Anyways back on topic, great website and forum Mehdi, nice to find a genuine person out there with the knowledge and willing to help, without asking for anything in return. Just wondering, the link to myprotein site....since i am already a customer there...if i used your link and made my order you would get some sort of advertising revenue ye? or does it only work on new customers, cause if i can help you out i'll order through your link in future:)
If your going through hell, keep going.

Hallo,

I am new on Stronglifts, joined the forum 10min ago. I've been working with the stronglifts 5 by 5 beginner program for the last 3 wks. I've been lifting weight for 11 years though, but from a very ignorant perspective. This is the first time am learning whats is trully involved, and I have found out my squat technique needs alot of work.

I am very very impressed by this site. It is mature, run by someone who actaully knows what he is talking about, and very informative. Thank you very much. Given all the work Mehdi has done here, that is an understatement. I look forward to getting to know you and this site much more. It is a pleasure to be on board.

I am one of those people who researches everything before acting on anything. Cautious is the term most often used to describe me by my family, friends and peers. I have been on a quest to "better" myself for 6 months now and have read so much on nutrition, exercise and training. I have dropped weight by simply changing my eating habits and light cardio. I reached a point about a month ago where I felt like I needed something more. My efforts turned to weight training but I am terrified of the gym. I read the book "The new rules of lifting" by Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove and was determined to begin something. I have never spent much time in a gym and needed to learn a good routine that I could do at home. I understood the value of certain exercises (squats, deadlifts) and stumbled upon the 5x5 stronglifts website. I downloaded and printed the free Ebook (thanks) and made several copies (I work in a printing facility) and placed them all over my house and office. I read the printed ebooks over and over and determined that I could do this program. I bought a used squat rack and olympic weight set and have religiously stuck to the program for 3 weeks now. I am starting to see gains and find myself motivated to get home and lift now. I love this site for the wealth of information it contains. When I have a question about form, stretching, or anything, I search on my laptop in the middle of my workouts sometimes and usually find the answer. To sum things up, I want to thank Mehdi and all the moderators, members and contributors for creating, maintaining and sculpting such an honest, intelligent wealth of information for the world to see. I hope to stay motivated and I feel better everyday. Again, thanks.

What I like about this site

I like to see the many different stages we are all at and the fact that there are many advanced lifters on here who should be able to help us out when we get to the intermediate /advanced level.

What I like about this site is there aren't pictures like this:

http://www.t-nation.com/pi.do?id=2820671
http://www.t-nation.com/pi.do?id=2805836
http://www.t-nation.com/pi.do?id=2791667

Now compare these pictures with the pictures they post of the men on that website. And they wonder why women are turned off. Where are the pictures of the women lifting heavy shit?? Nope they are too busy sticking their asses in the air for the camera. Where are the female athletes? Nope can't have that unless they are "figure" athletes.

I like being here because I'm not expected to look a certain way or act a certain way just because I'm a woman. The program is the same and the goals are the same. I'm treated no different than anyone else who comes here.

Thank you!

Joined the site about two weeks ago. What I like so far:
1. This forum, the relative lack of bs posts.
2. The fact that when I had questions about pulling just the bar, I got advice instead of insults from guys who pull 300+ lbs.
3. The forum's background color isn't black. Seriously, I think I'd need steroids for my eyeballs if I browsed T-Nation frequently.
4. And what pushed me over the edge to register and participate here is the training logs. Reading about guys bounce back from injuries worse than mine to lift heavy weights, and reading about guys (almost) as skinny as me actually put on muscle well into their 20s, 30s and 40s, has truly been inspirational.

Thanks Mehdi!

I have been here since November of 2008. I have tried many other forums and sites for information and motivation.

NOTHING COMPARES TO STRONGLIFTS!!!

The amount of actual USEFUL knowledge and the degree to which everyone helps out everyone else without bashing them is phenomenal. I recommend this site to people all the time.

It almost feels like going to the small town neighborhood gym where everyone gets along and helps out everyone else. I love how nice everyone is on here.

I honestly have not, and doubt very much that I will, find a better site.

Thanks a ton Mehdi!!

I have been a lurker on these forums for around a year, so don't let the join date fool you. I like Stronglifts because it's not just a forum, but a community. Go into any of the regularly updated logs and you'll see the banter, hard work and kindness prevalent in every section of the forum. I also like the fact that all the moderators have come from the same point.Furthermore, It's pretty cool to go into Mehdi's log and see he's human too.

So thank you to Mehdi, the moderators and everyone else.

I hate to say it, but the low volume of posts kinda helps, at least in the communal sense.

Don't get me wrong, I pimp this site out all the time, but yeah.

What I like?

+ No flaming on the boards
+ No "corporate" feel
+ Owner active on the board and beeing friendly and encouraging
+ Moderators not all guys with decades of lifting behind them. Gives a feeling of peer to peer environment for relative beginners
+ Sound advice 99% of the time
+ Training journals with real people
+ SOLID weighliftingprogram for beginners like me. I've been on the program for 7 or 8 weeks and yesterday my wife grabbed my upperarm and said "WOW they are big".

What I don't like about this site..can't drag myself away from it.

....must....turn off.....computer....oh, I give up!

I started SL 5x5 in Nov 08 and do not plan on stopping it any time soon.

You do get the odd person who posts silly off-the-wall comments that don't add to the main flow of the thread.

<whistles innocently and walks off, avoiding all eye contact>

Love the site and have made better progress on the program than anything done previously with lifting.

Long live Stronglifts!

I'm a newbie. I just registered a few mins ago and just browsing through the conversations send out a promise that I'll be able to learn a lot of stuff here. I just started working out as well. I've been called a weakling all my life. I started getting in shape when I realized I really should do something to take care of my physical health.
