I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

What is the perfect weight-lifter's dog?

I'm really into the greyhound because it looks like a sleek bodybuilder and is happy with a 15 min walk before it sleeps the rest of the day. What are your ideas on what a great dog would be for a weight-lifter?

LOL. It is in the off-topic area. I'm not sure how it will measure up to the thread on the best haircut for squatting.

A weightpulling dog! Usually pit bulls are best at this for their weight, but American Bulldogs seem to be really good too.

Quite the combo there. I've got a Dane myself and think they are the perfect weightlifter's dog.

Greyhounds are the perfect couch potato dog. As much as I love them, they are too delicate to be a perfect macho man weight-lifter's dog. They are incredible for outright running speed but they don't have a lot of brute strength.

So should we get into a debate about the perfect dog for a bodybuilder vs. a powerlifter vs. an oly lifter?

I'd go for an American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier or a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. They are naturally muscular and are very determined. I'm getting a Staffie next year, don't think he'll be doing much weight-pulling though.

Rottweiler all the way

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rottweiler

http://www.canismajor.com/dog/rottweil.html

just read about their characteristics and what they were originally used for

The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund ("Butchers Dog"), is a " large size, stalwart dog"[1] breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market as well as for hunting . "Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog."

that screams weightlifter/strength trainer's best friend to me.
