I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

No Country was based on the book by Cormach McCarthy, who is an absolutely phenomenal author. I've read many of his books, but not No Country...yet. Still, I could see his work all through the flick. The austerity of the settings, the dialogue, the vicious relentlessness of the characters. Those are all his trademarks. I was thoroughly impressed with what the Coen bros did with it.

On another note, There Will Be Blood was one of the THE BEST movies I've seen in a very long time. What a character study!!! Daniel Plainview was an over the top sociopath and Daniel Day Lewis did an excellent job portraying the character. I started it late and knowing it was a long movie figured I'd crash long before the end. Nope...was riveted all the way through. Didn't make me happy to hear the alarm clock this morning, but I'm glad I saw the whole movie in one sitting.

Saw "The hangover" Saturday night.

Funniest movie I've seen in years. I laughed so hard I almost cried. Don't leave the theater, you might miss something. And be sure and stay through the credits.

Got 'The Wrestler' on netflix last night. Excellent movie that I think most people on this forum would enjoy. Great story that really changed the way I think about famous entertainers, athletes, etc.

the incredible hulk the other night. i don't think it was anywhere near as good as the first one. they picked that goofy face edward norton to play the hulk this time; they should have stuck with eric bana. they should have stuck with the whole cast, and used the same soundtrack guy. did they even use the same director? lame.

i'm not a big fan of blockbuster CGI, but the first movie had gorgeous scene transitions and music. total work of art. it had character depth and i could empathize with the protagonists. not so with the second film. first film: tear-jerking mythic import. second film: overkill CGI and bad acting.

i also saw watchmen. that was okay; interesting, but not like the classic comic book film adaptations. it had a gothic touch to it, but more like seedy film noir than anything.

batman begins and the dark knight hit the mark for urban gothic excellence. i was getting so sick of burton's slapstick, kiddie-goth style; that guy blows chunks.

i saw a strange bulgarian film called zift. it was an interesting slavic take on tragic film noir, filmed in black and white.

a few weeks ago i downloaded and watched one of the creepiest vampire films ever, lifeforce. one of my all-time favorites.

I'll have to check that one out. My wife is a fan of vampires. Most recently we watched 'let the right one in'. Not really a creepy vampire movie, but very unique.

Yeah, Lifeforce is about alien vampires that look like giant bats. They suck lifeforce instead of blood and they can possess bodies of their victims to move around undetected. The soundtrack it eerie in all the right places. It was made way back in '85. It didn't do well in the theaters, but since then it has become a cult classic.

I read about Let the Right One In somewhere, and I'm downloading it.

Oldboy was awesome.
If you want a very disturbing horror movie than try Martyrs or Inside
