Music stirs emotions in all of us all in different ways. These songs represent moments in my life (being in a band, getting pissed/stoned for the first time, getting married, getting divorced, getting pissed & stoned even more, single life, getting married again, recording an album and touring, growing up, having kids, starting a healthier lifestyle etc etc) that trigger aggression or a sense of accomplishment/pride. The song may not be particularly upbeat but it stirs something inside that makes you want to do the best at whatever you are doing at that time.
Pop music (and that covers grunge, metal, RnB, indie, disco or whatever the music press call the various genres this month) is an art-form. If a song makes someone happy or inspires someone then it's positive no matter what it sounds like to anyone else. It's all relative.

It didn't work well for me. All I kept thinking about was invading Poland. Weird.
