I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

What position do you sleep in?

I've read that sleeping on your stomach isn't very good for spinal health. For the past 1.5 months I've attempted to sleep on my back but no matter what I can never fall asleep or I wake up on my stomach/side. I was wondering if anyone else has attempted to make the switch if they have any tips to help. I've tried pillows under my legs but I still can't fell asleep. My last resort might be a new mattress. Any ideas?

I love sleeping on my stomach.

Its something I have tried to get away from because its supposed to be bad for you.

I can't sleep on my back at all unless I'm REALLY tired. So far I've just been trying to at least stay on my side. I've been pretty successful staying on my side, but I don't know if thats any better.

sleeping on stomach is bad for neck.

sleeping on side is better, but your glutes get stretched, also not good.

Best solution is to sleep on side and put pillow between your legs (knees on top of each other feels uncomfortable otherwise). I always sleep on my side, don't like the pillow between legs. Flex the bottom leg, the other one straight on top of it.

I used to have problems falling asleep on my back. I also tried suing pillows and such. Side is more comfortable for me.

Still, sometimes, I'll go to sleep on my side and wake up on my back. At some point during the night, my body decides to straighten out.

Whenever I have some back or neck pain, sleeping on my back fixes it. But I must do it with no pillow and straight, as if I was inside a coffin.

It's not very easy to do it, as I prefer to sleep on my side or on my stomach, but when I'm very tired I can do it.

I must thank a friend of mine for this tip. Some months ago, I had a pretty bad torticollis for 3 days, and no rest, massage or medicine would make it go away. Then she told me to sleep on my back. The following morning I had almost no pain. The next one, I was perfect. Even did some squats.

There was this dude on Ripeley's believe it or not that actually slept stand up in a coffin. In fact, he hasn't even layed down or sat down for 40 years (I don't remember the exact number, but it was something crazy like that).

Yeah, sleep sideways with a pillow in between your legs, like Mehdi said. I always do that, though I have no idea where I picked it up from. Stomach isn't so great; I agree though, back is strange to sleep on. Like, I feel like I'm in a coffin or something.

Anyways, try your side with a pillow and one arm tucked underneath your pillow and slightly underneath/to the side of your head. Very comfortable indeed.

Since I started weight training, I haven't woken up with a sore back. It used to be sore every morning, and I'd usually wake up in weird positions. I sleep on my back, sometimes my side. I could sleep on a fucking staircase and wake up refreshed now.

Sideways is best for me, although my back used to hurt sleeping on my back, but sideways is ingrained in me.

Pretty much in any position conceivable, but on my back feels most natural. Unless I'm sick, then it's on my side wrapped into a ball..

It's really a 50/50 between back and side. I can't sleep on my stomach it destroys my lower back. ='[
